Lactation Consultant provides lactation support and education to patients and families. May plan and lead breastfeeding classes for expecting mothers. Being a Lactation Consultant is responsible for identifying and correcting lactation problems, and advising physicians and healthcare providers on lactation problems experienced by patients. Requires an associate degree in nursing or equivalent. Additionally, Lactation Consultant requires Registered Nurse (RN) License. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager.     Job Summary and Qualifications

    As the Lactation Consultant, you will consultant patient histories, performs breast and feeding evaluations, develops treatment plans and makes appropriate referrals as indicated.     What You Will Do In This Role:

    • You will demonstrate ability to perform comprehensive breastfeeding assessments of mothers and infants.
    • You will identify patients with complex breastfeeding problems through case findings and referrals. Plans, provides and evaluates specialized breastfeeding care.
    • You will serve as a clinical expert and collaborates with staff regarding the management of complex breastfeeding patient care problems.
    • You will demonstrate proficiency in using breastfeeding management equipment and devices.
    • You will function as a patient advocate and intervenes when necessary. Makes appropriate referrals, to physicians and community lactation support services.
    • You will effectively communicate plan of care regarding breastfeeding education/needs at patients’ level of understanding.

    What Qualifications You Will Need:

    • IBCLC-RLC Certification is required.
    • College degree from accredited school in related field is required.
    • One year of hospital LC experience is preferred.
