    The State of New Hampshire, Department of Environmental Services, Water Division, Drinking Water & Groundwater Bureau has a full time vacancy for a Sanitary Surveyor.

    Summary:

    Performs sanitary surveys, complaint investigations and technical assistance at public water systems pertaining to water system design, maintenance and operation, water quality monitoring, and compliance with the Safe Drinking Water Act.

    18 Months of additional relevant experience = Associate's degree

    36 Months of additional relevant experience = Bachelor's degree

    54 Months of additional relevant experience = Master's degree


    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

    Education: Bachelor's degree from a recognized college or university with major study in hydrogeology, environmental science, resources management, environmental law, environmental engineering, or a related environmental science. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.

    Experience: Four years’ experience as an Environmentalist or in a field related to hydrogeology, environmental science, environmental law, or resource management.

    LICENSE/CERTIFICATION : Must possess a valid driver’s license to complete professional field work.


    Responsibilities:

    Performs sanitary surveys at hundreds of public water systems annually to determine compliance with the safe drinking water act requirements related to operation, design, maintenance, and monitoring.

    Performs non-routine inspections and complaint investigations at of public water systems to determine compliance with the safe drinking water act requirements related to operation, design, maintenance, management, and monitoring.

    Prepares sanitary survey reports detailing necessary improvements at public water systems.

    Enters all required information into a database and otherwise communicates with related programs within the bureau, agency and DHHS.

    Initiates enforcement actions and prepares related documents.

    Inspects new water systems and identifies sampling locations to ensure water quality monitoring is representative of water being consumed by customers.

    Responds to bacteria detections that result in boil orders and makes recommendations regarding mitigation and release of orders.

    Operates and maintains necessary field equipment such as electronic device for survey software, geographical positioning systems, lab field kits, cars etc.

    Continually seeks to improve practices to add quality and value in support of the Department's mission while identifying and eliminating unnecessary or redundant actions.
