QUALIFICATIONS:
High school education preferred but not required. Must be able to read, write and follow instructions. Some laundry experience desired but not necessary. Will receive on-the-job training. Must have knowledge of commercial laundry processes, equipment, and procedures for both washing and ironing materials. Must be able to lift 50 pounds or more and be able to walk alone, pivot, tum and bend. Both hands must be functional enough to sort linen and fold clothes.
JOB SUMMARY:
1. Washes garments and linens as necessary in an electrically powered washing machine. Places clothes in drum of washer and adjusts valves to admit water of proper temperature.
2. Adds soap or other solutions at appropriate times. Starts drum rolling and stops machine after articles have been washed and rinsed.
3. Transfers washed clothes from washer to dryer and to baskets for distribution.
4. Hangs finished garments on hangers or folds and stacks garments.
5. Distributes clothes to residents' rooms.
6. Performs other duties as assigned by the Laundry Supervisor.
7. Wears gloves at all times when handling dirty linen. Washes hands after contact with any soiled linen.
8. Wears barrier proof clothing or PPE when handling contaminated linen in red bags.
9. Cleans and disinfects all washers after washing contaminated linen and at end of shift.
10. Keeps dryers lint free during shift and clean thoroughly at end of shift.
11. Leaves laundry equipment clean.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Responsible for washing laundry in a manner that will not damage either machine or garments, washing contaminated linens separately, avoiding overloading machines. Re ports malfunctions of equipment.
2. Willingness to perform routine tasks on a continuous basis. Ability to keep up with flow of work. Works under close supervision of the Supervisor.
3. Handles, stores, processes and transports all linens so as to prevent the spread of infection.
4. Wears gloves and barrier protection clothing as needed to protect self from infection.
