Lean Manufacturing Manager leads and designs Lean Manufacturing goals and strategies for improving the operations and processes within the organization. Manages all activities for continuous improvement and performance enhancement. Being a Lean Manufacturing Manager employs Lean methodologies and tools in order to accomplish business objectives. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Additionally, Lean Manufacturing Manager also requires training and Lean certification through an accredited organization. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Lean Manufacturing Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. Extensive knowledge of department processes. To be a Lean Manufacturing Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 to 3 years supervisory experience may be required.   • Position Roles and Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

    • Lead staff of Manufacturing Engineers responsible for creating and maintaining processes, manufacturing routers, procedures, and defining machining methods and tooling required for production.
    • Lead staff of CNC and CMM programmers ensuring programs are available at time of production, team validation of programs, and sharing of best practices to optimize cycle time and quality.
    • Participate in training machinists in use of new methods.
    • Monitor productivity of direct reports and assure efficiency and consistency of work.
    • Establish metrics for manufacturing engineering deliverables to be reported to management.
    • Conduct employee performance reviews/evaluations and development discussions to ensure professional growth.
    • Manage the department budget.
    • Actively engage in generating and implementing manufacturing continuous improvement projects, including Lean, 5S, process/equipment innovation, and other initiatives.
    • Instill problem solving techniques to address issues as they arise.
    • Lead efforts to identify root cause, make appropriate process changes, and implementation of sustainable long term corrective actions.
    • Work with design engineering to develop quality processes.
    • Improve manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning workflow, space requirements, and equipment layout.
    • Drive improvements in CNC tooling standardization and program efficiency.
    • Responsible for the preparation and documentation of manufacturing methods.
    • Responsible for the design, development, modification, and implementation of equipment and processes to aid in the overall manufacturing process.
    • Ensure proper use of all safety regulations and equipment used in manufacturing.

     

    Required Skills, Education, and Experience:

    • BS degree in Engineering or related technical field
    • Three (3) years minimum experience as a Manufacturing Engineer or equivalent role
    • Five (5) years minimum of manager/leadership experience in a manufacturing setting
    • CNC programming experience
    • Strong CNC machining knowledge
    • Ability to read and decipher drawings, procedures, and a solid understanding of GD&T
    • Strong working knowledge of Six Sigma and Lean tools and methodologies
    • Machining, metal-forming or complex assembly experience
    • Attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of this position
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office products (Excel, Project, Word, Outlook)
    • Must be a U.S. Citizen

     

    Preferred Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

    • Aerospace and/or Defense industry experience
    • Aerospace/Mechanical Engineering degree, Industrial Engineering degree or Material Science degree
    • Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification
    • Capital Acquisition experience
    • Project Management training
    • Knowledge in the design of production systems to meet cost, schedule, and quality objectives
    • CMM programming experience
    • Experience with machine maintenance methodologies (PM, TPM)
    • Bearing manufacturing experience (plain, sleeve, spherical, rod ends)
    • Cold-forming (bearing swaging) manufacturing operations
    • Manufacturing footprint optimization and part/product family strategies
    • Working knowledge of 3D solid modeling
    • Tooling documentation/library and tool life management
