Legal Services Director oversees the activities of the organization's legal department. Provides legal advice, interpretation, and guidance to senior management and officers regarding contracts, state/federal regulatory requirements, intellectual property or trademark protection, and other business matters. Being a Legal Services Director reviews all information and prepares defense for any legal actions against the organization or advises on prosecuting lawsuits on behalf of the organization. Coordinates and reviews the work of internal or external legal staff. Additionally, Legal Services Director manages staff of attorneys. Requires a Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school. Requires admittance to a state bar. Typically reports to top management. The Legal Services Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Legal Services Director typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.     Three Rivers Legal Services Inc. (TRLS) has an immediate opening for a full-time Paralegal II with our Legal Helpline. The Paralegal may work out of the Gainesville, Lake City, or Jacksonville office locations, with the option to go to a hybrid or remote schedule after the successful completion of an introductory period. The Paralegal will provide advice and brief services to eligible clients under the direct supervision of an attorney in the areas of housing, family, consumer, public benefits, probate and estate planning, etc. Contact with clients will primarily be over the telephone. A desire to assist low-income clients and underserved populations is essential. TRLS is a nonprofit law firm that provides free legal assistance to low income clients, the elderly and underserved populations. TRLS is dedicated to the provision of quality legal assistance and to community empowerment through preventive legal education and outreach.


    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


    • Interview clients and provide limited advice under the direct supervision of an attorney.
    • Provide brief services to clients, such as drafting pro se documents, calling third parties, engaging in brief negotiations.
    • Conduct legal research and fact investigations.
    • Draft advice letters and provide clients information about other resources.
    • Maintain detailed notes in electronic case management system.
    • Ensure cases comply with rules and regulations of various funders.
    • Manage, organize, and archive documents in case management system.
    • Maintain Notary Public license.
    • In coordination with the Director of Intake, communicate and foster relationships with community agencies and local client groups.
    • Represent TRLS at meetings, community events, and other outreach.

    Qualifications:


    • Paralegal Certification, Associate degree or higher or 3 years of experience as a legal assistant or paralegal.
    • Excellent oral, written, and legal research skills.
    • Excellent organizational skills.
    • Ability to demonstrate sound understanding of legal rules and procedures.
    • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to relate to clients, attorneys, other professionals, and the community.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and G-Suite.
    • Demonstrate interest in public interest law and commitment to justice for low-income and underserved populations.
    • Bilingual (Spanish/English), preferred, but not required.

    Salary and Benefits: $24 -$30 per hour, depending on experience. Full benefits package including health insurance, FSA Health and Dependent Care, vacation leave, sick leave, 12 paid holidays, 3 personal holidays, short term disability, $50,000 life insurance policy, 403(b) retirement plan with 5% employer contribution after 2 years of service. Voluntary options of vision, dental, and long-term disability also available. Minimum 35-hour work week. Office closes to the public at noon on Fridays. Flexible work schedule with remote options available after completion of 6-month introductory period.
