Mortgage Lending Officer

  • Summary of Basic Function:
    Builds and increases the Brentwood Bank mortgage loan pipeline by attracting mortgage customers through leads and sales generation activities. Establish and maintain relationships with multiple organizations (i.e. Realtors and Builders) and centers of influence to generate mortgage loan leads and opportunities. Builds rapport with potential borrowers while evaluating their needs and beginning the loan application process. Produces high quality loans while exceeding customer expectations. Works closely with their Mortgage Loan Originator Assistant to facilitate successful underwriting and closing of loans while maintaining on-going compliance with all applicable regulations and company policies.
    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
    • Operates with a non-standard work schedule outside normal banking hours to accommodate customers at a time and location convenient to the customer.
    • Develops lending relationships with centers of influence and other referral sources to generate mortgage loan volume.
    • Regularly engaged in making and soliciting loan sales and conducting sales-related activities.
    • Participates in First Time Homebuyer education, including seminars when offered.
    • Attending sales seminars, networking events and builder/realtor meetings for lead generation.
    • Ability to work independently and remotely and conduct the majority of activities away from Bank locations.
    • Responsible to follow up on referrals from other bank partners.
    • Meet with potential customers in the office, their homes, or other locations convenient to them.
    • Demonstrate proven abilities to successfully inform and educate consumers regarding mortgage loan solutions.
    • Builds rapport with borrowers while evaluating their needs and beginning the loan application process.
    • Take Mortgage loan applications.
    • Input Applications into the LOS and generate Loan Estimates for the borrower’s review.
    • Ensure that documents required for processing, underwriting, and closing are secured in a timely manner.
    • If necessary, submits loan applications to processing and underwriting, within 24 hours of receiving.
    • Works closely with Loan Operations staff to help facilitate successful underwriting and closing of loans.
    • Maintain regular contact with the prospective borrower to apprise them of the status of the application.
    • Reviews closing statements for accuracy and discuss with borrower prior to closing.
    • Attend loan closings, when possible, to ensure a good experience and to solicit future referrals. Cross-sell products and services.
    • Comply with regulatory and compliance guidelines as well as Brentwood Bank underwriting policy and practices.
    • Keep informed of trends and developments in the local real estate market and the competitive environment.
    • Reports on community involvement and activities in support of bank’s Community Reinvestment Act efforts.
    • Maintain knowledge of lending programs, policies, compliance, procedures, and applicable laws and regulations
    • Maintain a professional image and standards consistent with Company policies and procedures.
    • Other duties as assigned.
    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Requirements:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Business related field or equivalent experience
    • Three plus (3 ) years as a loan officer in first mortgage production
    • Three plus (3 ) years working knowledge of FNMA, FHLMC, TIL regulations, RESPA regulations. Understanding of State and Federal real estate and finance laws preferred
    • Proven track record of self-sourcing mortgage business from outside COI’s
    • MLO is expected to meet or exceed established goals while maintaining a high standard of client satisfaction and loan quality.
    • Must be eligible for NMLS licensing.
    • Proven analytical skills, report writing skills and thorough attention to detail.
    • Self-directed. Ability to work autonomously, to prioritize work and to meet deadlines.
    • All Mortgage Lending Officers will be checked against the Interagency Exclusionary List at time of employment and annually thereafter.
    • Strong MS Office Suite, Laser ProDemonstrated superior customer service and sales skills
    • Physical Requirements: prolonged standing (5-8 hours per day), frequent use of hands to manipulate/grasp objects, ability to communicate face to face and on the phone with clients, occasional bending and lifting from floor height, frequent forward reach, frequent lifting of 1-10lbs, occasional lifting of up to 50lbs, ability to see and read fine print, must be able to distinguish and count currency.
    • Job may require working evenings and Saturdays. Job may require local travel between branches or offsite travel for training.
