    Newtown Savings Bank is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Credit Analyst III with 3-5 years’ experience to join our Credit team. This position is responsible for completing financial spreads for the Bank’s existing and prospective business customers. The Credit Analyst III underwrites the Bank’s complex renewals/reviews of existing loans, complex modifications of existing loans, and mid- level new loan requests. Assigns risk ratings to new loans and reviews existing risk ratings for accuracy. Provides recommendations to Accounts Officers. Assures conformity to Bank policies and procedures. Provides additional analysis and assists with projects as needed/assigned. This is an onsite opportunity at our Corporate office in Newtown, CT. This role has remote option of one day per week.

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Thorough understanding of the Bank’s loan policy.
    • Thorough understanding of the Bank’s credit department procedures.
    • Complete financial spreads for the Bank’s existing and prospective business customers, including the calculation of various analytical ratios testing liquidity, leverage, debt to income, and debt service coverage. Make decisions on customization of the analytical ratios based on type of customer, nature of operations, and industry.
    • At inception of the underwriting process, review file to assure all necessary information and documentation has been received. Work with Account Officers to obtain any missing information or documentation.
    • Underwrite the Bank’s complex renewals/reviews of existing loans, complex modifications of existing loans, and mid-level new loan requests. Completing credit authorization memos and other documentation using sound underwriting practices on a variety of requests and credit structures. Analysis includes a thorough understanding of all parties involved in the request, credit/transaction structure, collateral strength, identifying strengths and weaknesses, identifying and recommending contingencies, and recommending requirements to monitor loan performance in conformance with Loan Policy.
    • Make recommendations to the Account Officers based on the structure of the transaction and controls of the transaction.
    • Recommend risk ratings to new loans.
    • Attend committee meetings to present requests in conjunction with Account Officers. Articulate recommendation to approve or decline and support recommendation.
    • Execute Credit Administration tasks under the direction of department leadership. Such tasks may include, but are not limited to:
      • Conducting internal loan reviews in according with Loan Policy (annually, quarterly, etc.)
      • Testing loan covenant compliance.
      • Assessing and identifying changes to loan risk ratings based on Loan Policy parameters.
    • Provide additional analysis and assist with projects as needed/assigned.
    • Efficiently manage workflow and meet deadlines with direction.
    • Promote the Bank and the Bank’s services.
    • Provide prompt and courteous service to all external and internal customers.

    POSITION REQUIREMENTS

    • Must have a bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance OR a bachelor’s degree in business, economics, or mathematics with advanced coursework in accounting or finance, is preferred.
    • Must have 3-5 years’ experience in a business lending credit function.
    • Must have a working knowledge of the standard suite of MS Office Products, with advanced knowledge of MS Word and MS Excel.
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities, function independently, meet deadlines, and work effectively in a team environment.
    • Displays high initiative in departmental responsibilities and projects.
    • Solid written and verbal communication skills.
