Librarian Assistant supports library circulation and processing operations and assists library users in locating materials and using library systems and tools. Reshelves returned books and materials and updates the library information system. Being a Librarian Assistant maintains user account and access data and processes special requests for materials. Performs routine cataloging processes. Additionally, Librarian Assistant assists with maintenance and update processes for library databases, software, and systems. May perform clerical tasks related to book purchasing and payments. Requires a high school diploma. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Librarian Assistant works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function. Has gained proficiency in multiple competencies relevant to the job. SJCPLS encourages a love of literature, the arts, and lifelong learning by providing a variety of information, resources, and entertainment to the community. SJCPLS serves all areas of St. Johns County, including St. Augustine, Ponte Vedra Beach, Fruit Cove, and Hastings. The Library System has six branches, two bookmobiles, and offers books-by-mail service. In addition to books, periodicals, and online databases, SJCPLS offers computer access, notary services, Inter-Library Loan, access to a Seed Library, test proctoring, and many volunteer opportunities. The Library System also offers a dynamic range of programming for adults, teens, and children. Employees work in a team-oriented environment and are responsible for assisting with library circulation, reference, youth and adult service areas.

    EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
    The ideal Reference Librarian candidate must possess St. Johns County’s core values of compassion, innovation, and trustworthiness and must work well in a collaborative team environment. Some of the specific tasks include but are not limited to: Assists in the collection of monthly usage statistics.Resolves patron questions, concerns, or complaints.Responsible for subject/genre collection maintenance; provides Interlibrary Loan and reference services.Responsible for supervisory duties including training staff and volunteers and acting as the Person in Charge on occasion.Provides reader’s advisory, reference and general information to patrons of all ages; provides assistance and instruction regarding the use of databases, catalogs, and computer applications.
