The Librarian Assistant works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function. Has gained proficiency in multiple competencies relevant to the job.     POSITION SUMMARY: The Instructional and Librarian Assistant assists in maintaining a professionally operated library with a welcoming and helpful atmosphere in which caring is encouraged, reading is fostered, and knowledge may grow. The Instructional and Librarian Assistant partners with teachers and students in the pursuit of learning through the use of library media center, Learning Center, materials, and equipment. The Instructional and Librarian Assistant provides the appropriate learning atmosphere and activities designed to support the school’s instructional program.  When necessary, under the direction of the Dean of Academics, substitute for teachers.


    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Under the supervision of the librarian, the library assistant is responsible for:

    • Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school
    • Acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
    • Supports and adheres to the Religious Standards for Catholic School Employees and policies and procedures of the school and Archdiocese
    • Maintains confidentiality regarding school matters
    • Adheres to safety training and protocols on a daily basis and takes precautionary measures to ensure the safety and well-being of self, others.
    • Responsible for protecting the confidentiality of any information or material obtained in the service with the organization to include but not limited to client names and information, services rendered to clients, donors names and gifts, internal and external investigations or results of any investigations, and financial information.
    • Adherence to the Code of Conduct and the Faith and Moral Policy is mandatory.
    • Every employee is required to take a solution-oriented approach in their interactions and undertakings, as well as being a team member that promotes collaboration and commitment to the Mission and Vision of the organization.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
    • Develop and promote the role of the library in the school
    • Work closely with teaching staff to plan and deliver the information skills curriculum
    • Promote the effective and efficient use of the library and library resources
    • Work with teaching staff to take a strategic approach to cultivating a love of reading in children


    Requirements

     

    Minimum Qualifications:


    Education

    • High School diploma; an Associate degree or sixty college hours preferred.
    • Evidence of knowledge of library procedures, technical services, awareness of trends in children/young adult literature, material selections, appropriate selection of books, including quality children/young adult literature books, and basic reference skills.


    Minimum Knowledge and Skills:

    • Substantial library experience, with experience of working with schools or with children
    • Community links - Experience of liaising with local literacy events and promoting them in school
    • Experience of organizing literacy and other events within school, e.g. visiting authors.
    • Reliable transportation
