Additionally, LIBRARIAN distributes up-to-date information on new acquisitions, library activities, and services. Oversees the selection and maintenance of technology infrastructure and tools used in the library. Requires a master's degree in library science. Typically reports to a manager. The State of New Hampshire, Department of Corrections, Division of Rehabilitative Services has a full-time vacancy for a Media Generalist/Librarian.
Summary:
Responsible for all phases of the day-to-day operation of the correctional system law libraries, general libraries and two satellite libraries, working in close and immediate contact with prisoners on a daily basis, having responsibility for security.
Responsibilities:
Provides supervision, training, and education to DOC assigned library staff and inmate workers in all phases of circulating libraries: computerized circulation, inventory control, cataloging, book repair and protection, and recordkeeping, in order to provide both adequate staffing for the library and opportunity for rehabilitation for inmate staff.
Provides direct services to inmates that do not have access to the library (Special Housing Unit, Close Custody Unit, Residential Treatment Unit, Infirmary and Transitional Work Centers), to insure compliance with court mandated guidelines.
Responsible for the evaluation, selection, and purchasing of legal materials to insure compliance with court-mandated guidelines.
Evaluates, selects, and purchases a wide range of books, magazines, and newspapers to provide inmates with adequate, updated, recreational reading material.
Evaluates, selects, and purchases a wide variety of supplies necessary for the effective day-to-day operation of the library.
Responsible for keeping accurate records of all material that enters, circulates, or leaves the library in order to minimize loss and maximize accountability.
Responsible for the daily scheduling of a large number of inmates requesting library use, in order to make maximum use of library space and available time.
Acts as a role-model, to a wide variety of inmates by maintaining appropriate appearance, verbal interaction and demeanor while fulfilling and carrying out her/his own responsibilities.
Performs all additional duties and/or assignments as determined by NH DOC and/or the Corrections Special School District administration including high school equivalency classroom instruction.
