LIBRARIAN develops and maintains a collection of books and other materials and provides research and reference support to library users. Researches publications and suggests new sources and offerings for acquisition to enhance the collection. Being a LIBRARIAN performs cataloging and creates bibliographies and metadata to classify the library's collection of books, serial publications, documents, audiovisual, and other materials. Designs and delivers research support processes and services to ensure that groups and individuals can access requested materials. Additionally, LIBRARIAN distributes up-to-date information on new acquisitions, library activities, and services. Oversees the selection and maintenance of technology infrastructure and tools used in the library. Requires a master's degree in library science. Typically reports to a manager. The LIBRARIAN occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Gaining exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function.     Job Description:

    Herkimer College seeks qualified candidates for a full-time, 10-month Librarian for Technical Services.

    The basic function of this position is the implementation of library systems and products, cataloging of library materials.

    Major Responsibilities:

    • Work with director in selection of library software and systems
    • Coordinate library systems statistics and run reports
    • Work directly with college faculty/programs and library director in developing library collections
    • Load, manage and use library software to complete basic job functions
    • Assist library director in collection management
    • Provide direct reference/research services-live, via e-mail, via online chat, via phone.
    • Assist in teaching information literacy sessions as needed.
    • Participate/provide online class presentations as needed
    • Provide Interlibrary Loan Services
    • Assist in providing material needed for research by students and faculty
    • Assist in the creation and maintenance of the Research Guides
    • Maintain, catalog, physically organize, and digitize library materials.
    • Other duties as assigned.


    Requirements:

    Masters Degree in Library Science

    1-2 years Library experience



    Additional Information:

    Salary range: $36,675 - $55,015, dependent upon qualifications and experience
