The primary responsibilities of this position are to assist the Programmers to (1) implement programming and events (2) prepare and organize supplies (3) assist customers in the access and use of library materials and services and (4) assist other library staff with a variety of library and collection maintenance tasks as needed.

    Immediate Supervisor: Assistant Director or Director; duties assigned by Programmers

    Positions Directly Supervised: None - but may oversee large programs or program related tasks

    Primary Responsibilities:
    • Serves as a representative of the library at events and activities;
    • Assists in tracking statistics on library programs and outreach usage;
    • Helps to promote library programs and events using appropriate medium such as flyers, posters, etc;
    • Assists in keeping the library neat and orderly;
    • Assists in organizing programming supplies;
    • Assists in preparing for in-house and outreach programming.
    Secondary Responsibilities:
    • Sorts, organizes and shelves library materials;
    • Provides respectful customer service according to Library values and standards;
    • Assists customers with directional questions and with using the copier, public computers, FAX and other equipment as needed;
    • Assists customers in the use of library materials and services, including reference and readers' advisory services in-house, at outreach stops and by phone and electronic media;
    • May participate in planning, and evaluation processes, including conducting studies, creating reports, and communicating information both orally and in writing;
    • May present information about library services and programs to individuals and groups;

    • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions;
    • Ability to operate a telephone, FAX, typewriter, copier, printer and other office equipment;
    • Flexible, adaptable, and able to flourish in a changing environment;
    • Dependable, motivated self-starter able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends;
    • A background check and drug test may be required.

    Individuals may need to sit or stand for extended periods. Manual dexterity to manipulate library materials required. May work extensive hours at the computer screen. Reaching above shoulder heights, below the waist or lifting as required to retrieve or store materials throughout the workday. Ability to do repetitive tasks with speed and accuracy. Employees may need to carry, push, pull, or lift up to 40 pounds. Proper lifting techniques required. Push and pull fully loaded (50-100 pounds) book trucks. Ability to work under pressure, coordinating multiple responsibilities simultaneously, and meet firm deadlines. May need to work both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions.

    Education, Training and Experience: High school diploma, GED are preferred. Working towards a high school diploma will be considered. Must be at least 16 years of age.

    Status: This is a part-time, temporary position working approximately 10-15 hours a week and requires working scheduled shifts that may include daytime, evening and weekend hours. The position will end on Aug 3, 2024.

    Wage: $10 hourly
