    Salary range: The posted UCSC Salary Scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. See the scale titled, Represented Specialist Series Fiscal Year. "Off-scale salaries", i.e., a salary that is higher than the published system-wide salary at the designated rank and step, are offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions. A reasonable estimate for this position is $51,300.
    Percent time: Full-time (100%)
    Anticipated start: As soon as possible after the initial review of applications.
    Position duration: The initial position duration will align with the current NSF grant, which ends on August 31, 2024. There is the possibility of reappointment if the NSF grant's no-cost extension is granted. Should the hiring unit propose reappointment; a review to assess performance will be conducted.

    Position description

    Professor Maureen Callanan in the UCSC Department of Psychology invites applications for the position Cognitive Development Researcher. The researcher will join a multi-site collaborative research project, Ciencia en Relatos, funded by the National Science Foundation and focused on storytelling about science and nature in everyday lives of children from Latine families. The UCSC research team includes a postdoctoral researcher, graduate students, and undergraduate students. The core duties will be to assist with data collection in San Jose, Watsonville, and Santa Cruz, where parents are interviewed, and parents and children are videotaped while engaging in book reading and other activities related to science and nature. The researcher must be able to drive to data collection sites. The researcher will also contribute to the lab by assisting with transcribing, translating, coding from video and audio taped recordings, as well as data entry, data management, and some data analysis. All aspects of the work will be conducted in both Spanish and English.

    We welcome applications from candidates who have experience working with preschool-aged children, experience with video-based language and behavioral coding, and/or experience with statistical analysis.

    Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

    Bachelor's degree (or equivalent foreign degree) in psychology or related field; experience conducting research with children and/or families; bilingual in Spanish; experience with written and spoken translation between Spanish and English.
