SCHEDULE:

8 hours per day – 190 days

7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:

Receives direction from the Principal and Director of Media Services.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Completed at least two (2) years of study at an institution of higher education (equivalent to 48 semester hours), or obtained an Associates’ degree or higher, or pass the Paraprofessional exam. Applicant will need to provide official transcripts or Paraprofessional certificate as documentation.
• Internal candidates must have passed Clerical Basics and Skyward tests. External candidates must pass Clerical Basics and Skyward tests within probationary period.
• Demonstrated ability to learn and effectively use Destiny Library Manager circulation software.
• Has working knowledge of the Internet with the ability to assist students with online research.
• Exhibits an enthusiasm for reading.
• Demonstrates proficiency of basic library skills by passing the library basic skills test.
• Successful interview with the Principal/Director of Media Services.
• Detail oriented and organized.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Facilitates learning in digital citizenship, library research skills, makerspace activities, etc. for all students in grades 5 and 6 on a biweekly basis
• Works with small groups of students in a learning capacity for RTI as needed
• Booktalks titles with individual students and groups to assist students in finding engaging books to read
• Circulates books to students through the Destiny Library Manager program daily.
• Promotes reading with students and staff through exciting activities, interactive displays, and book fairs, using incentives and rewards as needed.
• Maintains and actively promotes the library Google Classrooms with ebooks and online resources
• Collaborates with teachers in finding resources for makerspace activities and assists with restocking as needed.
• Sends out overdues weekly to parents and follows up on materials that are significantly overdue.
• Performs basic troubleshooting of AV equipment and assists staff with requests for batteries, lamps, and checks out available equipment.
• Promotes and maintains a professional library for staff.
• Notifies staff of new library materials through e-mail or staff meetings.
• Handles teachers’ requests for media center book and non-book materials.
• Inventories the library books and materials through a yearly inventory.
• Selects books and other materials for the library through book vendor meetings, magazine, and journal reviews.
• Types requisitions for orders and pays invoices in a timely manner.
• Readies new materials for shelving.
• Maintains an up-to-date collection, weeding dated materials and books beyond repair.
• Repairing books as needed.
• Prepares plans for substitutes when absent.
• Receives and schedules requests for use of the Media Center.
• Assists with the circulation and inventory of textbooks as needed through Destiny Resource Manager.
• Keep records needed for Media Center reports and send reports to the Principal/Director of Media Services.
• Other duties related to the Library/Media Center as requested by the building Principal/Director of Media Services.
