Bangor is located at 44°48′N 68°48′W / 44.8°N 68.8°W / 44.8; -68.8. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 34.59 square miles (89.59 km2), of which 34.26 square miles (88.73 km2) is land and 0.33 square miles (0.85 km2) is water.
