    About the Role:

    The Library Director reports directly to the Library Board of Directors. As Director, you will be responsible for the overall leadership and management of the library and a staff of 4.5 FTE employees. Examples of duties include:

    • Develop and implement the library's strategic plan
    • Recommend and administer effective policies and procedures
    • Hire and supervise staff and foster a positive and motivating attitude of leadership
    • Prepare and administer operating budgets
    • Manage collection development, including ordering books and materials
    • Cultivate strong relationships within the community
    • Communicate effectively with the Library Board of Directors, the Friends of the Library, the County Administrator, the County Board of Supervisors, and other stakeholders
    • Advocate for the library and secure funding
    • Develop and implement innovative programs and services
    • Serve as administrator for library software and website
    • Market library services and programs
    • Maintain a strong knowledge of library trends and best practices

    Qualifications:

    • Master's degree in Library Science (MLS) from an ALA-accredited program
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a supervisory or administrative role in a public library setting
    • Must possess a Librarian's Professional Certification from the Library of Virginia
    • Passion for public libraries and the communities they serve
    • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
    • Ability to develop and manage budgets
    • Experience with technology implementation
    • Commitment to providing top-notch customer service
    • Experience with building construction projects preferred

    The salary range is $58,058 - $92,742 annually.
