Library Services Director supervises, maintains, and enhances policies and procedures for a library. Oversees professional and support staff involved in cataloging, indexing, issuing books/materials, and keeping records of items on loan. Being a Library Services Director selects books and publications for purchase and subscribes to pertinent periodicals as allowed for by the given budget. Requires master's of library and information science from an ALA-accredited school. Additionally, Library Services Director typically reports to top management. The Library Services Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. · 20 hours/week
· Wage: $16.44 per hour

What You’d Do
· This position primarily works in the Audio-Visual department at the Central Library. This position will also work in the circulation department. The Audio-Visual department serves customers of our music and movie collections with duties including retrieving materials, shelving, making displays, creating film and music-related social media content, planning and running daily movie screenings in the Film Vault, and recommending material to library patrons. The Circulation department provides services such as checking materials out and assisting customers with Library card registration and account questions.
· Duties include retrieving and checking our materials, shelving, making displays, and recommending material to library patrons.
· Determines customer service needs by analyzing and solving problems.
· Provides one-on-one help with Library services.
· Assists patrons with library account questions, in person and on the telephone.
· Assists patrons with requesting, finding, and checking out of materials.
· You would also on occasion work in other Central Library public service departments.
Requirements
· Knowledge of and interest in music and film.
· Demonstrated ability to meet and serve the public, working effectively with patrons of all ages.
· Demonstrated ability to learn library operations, services, and policies, including computer procedures.
· Many duties are performed while standing and bending; ability to lift up to 40 lbs. Working environments may be busy, noisy, and/or dusty.
· Basic computer skills with a willingness to learn emerging technologies.
· Demonstrated ability to follow oral and/or written instructions.
· Ability to speak and understand English is required. Additional consideration may be given to individuals that are proficient in any non-English languages spoken in Kansas City area including Somali, Swahili, Spanish, Arabic, French, Dari, Pashto, and Vietnamese.
· Minimum requirements include High School diploma or equivalent or any combination of education, training, and life experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
