Library Services Manager manages the daily planning, staff, and operations for the acquisition, classification, maintenance, licensing, and distribution of print and digital materials to meet the information needs of library users. Coordinates process to research, review, identify and procure new materials to develop the library's collection. Being a Library Services Manager performs cataloging and creates bibliographies and metadata to classify the library's collection of books, serial publications, documents, audiovisual, and other materials. Develops and oversees support, service, and technology resources to ensure that groups and individuals can access requested materials. Additionally, Library Services Manager requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Library Services Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Library Services Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required. Summary The library director serves as a member of the IS team and reports to the director of educational technology and innovation. The library director works closely and collaboratively with all members of the IS team to model creative problem solving, critical thinking, and flexibility necessary for success in our diverse and changing world. The primary functions of this role are to inspire a love of reading, support teachers in finding and creatively using resources, and to support Nashoba Brooks’ vision for dynamic transliteracy integration throughout the School. Nashoba Brooks is committed to using innovative instruction, including integrated technology and design thinking theory, to equip our students with the tools, resources, and skills necessary to be successful in the 21st century. This is a 12-month full-time position. Responsibilities Faculty Support -Lead and support the faculty in effective curricular integration through a consistent pattern of strategic outreach and support. -Lead and support the School’s commitment to a vibrant library and research program. -Model curiosity, enthusiasm, and creative problem solving when using educational technology. -Collaborate with all members of the IS team to develop and execute strategic plans. -Support teachers in gaining independence utilizing educational technology and databases following a gradual release model. -Respond to requests from employees for media, instructional, and technical help as needed. Library -Manage day-to-day operations of library and related programs, including databases, budget, physical space, inventory, cataloging, processing, and collection utilizing the CREW method. -Work with students in grades PS-8 to cultivate a love of reading, develop research skills, and teach digital citizenship. -Select, evaluate, and maintain electronic library resources and state database contracts. -Serve as a resource for curricular integration. -Manage and regularly update the library website using Google sites. -Manage Destiny Discover catalog following MARC and OCLC guidelines. -Maintain collection partnership with Concord Public Library. -Manage digital library (SORA). -Develop and offer library skills, educational technology, and transliteracy training workshops for teachers (library orientation, research, source citation, databases, etc.). -Research educational software/hardware to support transliteracy integration and innovation. -Work closely with the communications team to manage library communications that are well aligned with Nashoba Brooks’ mission and brand standards. -Organize special events throughout the year, including but not limited to summer reading programs, book fairs, author talks, and community events. -Work with the director of educational technology and innovation to supervise librarian and media integration specialist and organize parent volunteers. Integration and Instruction -Teach library classes and write term reports. -Collaborate with classroom teachers to develop innovative lessons and support them in gaining independence in integrated curriculum instruction. -Encourage and cultivate inquiry-based learning, curriculum integration, unit design, backward design philosophy and gradual release implementation. -Meet with grade level, department, and other committees to plan and assess curriculum aligned with Nashoba Brooks’ vision and goals. -Be responsible for evaluating, promoting, and using existing and emerging technologies to support the mission of Nashoba Brooks School, including proposing appropriate acquisitions. -Work with teachers to develop research guides, promote effective note taking skills, teach citations, and cultivate resource lists. Teamwork -Collaborate effectively and consistently demonstrate support for all members of the IS team. -Actively participate in IS team meetings. -Assist in the regular evaluation of the library and technology scope and sequence. -Effectively manage multiple responsibilities. -Continue to pursue professional development opportunities aligned with the vision for transliteracy integration and library trends at Nashoba Brooks.
