POSITION SUMMARY
The Adult Services Associate provides reference and Readers’ Advisory services to Library customers and supports staff in managing collections and conducting programs. Assists Library customers in the use of digital and print resources, and promotes Library resources, programs, and services.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Utilizes and accesses information using a broad spectrum of resources, including print, electronic, and online resources.
- Provides leadership, training and guidance to staff and the public in the area of Adult & Teen Services.
- Stays current with adult and teen literature, relevant technology, and library trends. Provides reference and Reader’s Advisory assistance to customers, including topical research and material location in person, by telephone, and via email.
- Assists and occasionally leads presentations of library programs.
- Assembles and arranges displays of public information, bulletin boards, books, and other library materials.
- May process, track, and report Interlibrary Loan (ILL) requests; may serve as contact person for ILL services.
- May periodically serve as Person In Charge (PIC), providing support for employees, customers, and facility issues.
- Collaborates with Marketing and IT to add content and promote services relevant to teen services on the Library website and associated social networking sites.
- Assists Librarians with collection management. Selects and evaluates materials for replacement, repair, or withdrawal from the library collection.
- Prepares reports and statistics for review as requested.
- Assists in conducting library tours and other outreach activities as required. Represents the library at community events.
- May oversee volunteers.
- Troubleshoots and resolves minor computer hardware and software problems.
- Attends professional development opportunities.
- Performs other related duties and special projects as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
- Uses relevant computer software to access information, answer questions, and perform daily tasks. Familiar with the use of database applications.
- Ability to effectively provide reference assistance and instruction services.
- Demonstrates strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to successfully lead programs and give presentations.
- Strong interpersonal skills, working effectively with individuals of diverse cultures, communication styles, abilities, and backgrounds.
- Uses problem solving skills in determining priorities, finding timely solutions to departmental or system-wide issues.
- Service-oriented with the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with staff and the public.
- Successfully supports and/or collaborates on projects and programs with staff members.
- Takes responsibility for consistent completion and follow-up on all tasks.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS
- Four-year college degree.
- Minimum two years of relevant work experience.
- Bilingual proficiency a plus.

The benefits of this position at the Naperville Public Library include:
- Annual Vacation Accrual: 2 weeks per year
- Holidays: 7 days per year
- Annual Sick Accrual: 12 days per year

Tuesday 8:30am-5:00pm
Wednesday 8:30am-5:00pm
Thursday 12:30pm-9:00pm
Friday 8:30am-5:00pm
Two weekends per month
Every eighth Friday evening
Every fourth weekend; hours vary
