Library Technical Services Director jobs in Pittsfield, MA

Berkshire Athenaeum, Pittsfield’s Public Library, is seeking to fill the part-time position of Library Assistant I in our Technical Services Department. The Library Assistant processes materials, repairs and mends damaged library materials, completes basic clerical assignments, shelves materials, and handles routine materials. 

This position involves hours working twelve hours per week in the Technical Services Department with the potential for opportunities to work additional hours as a substitute in other departments. Anticipated shifts are Monday-Thursday, 9am-12pm. 

Responsibilities

• Performs clerical duties, including typing and computer word processing, filing, and shelving
• Mends damaged library materials, including in house repairs and sending materials out to a commercial binder
• Shelving of all materials and other associated tasks, such as keeping shelves neat, keeping books in proper order
• Uses the department’s audio-visual, office, and/or computer equipment and resources
• Performs specific tasks assigned by the supervisor, including one time and ongoing projects

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent or within one year of graduation
• Computer skills or demonstrated ability/aptitude to be trained in this area
• Demonstrated patience and skill in dealing with detailed projects and the general public
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as: safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
