    IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Assistant Vice Chancellor for Academic Support

    SCHEDULE DETAILS: Full-time (may require work beyond normal work hours)/12 month position/PSRS


    Position Summary

    The College Director—Library is responsible for planning and directing the operations of OTC Library Services. Major responsibilities include supervision of library staff, collection development, and representing the library to internal and external stakeholders.


    Essential Job Duties

    • Ensure the goals, priorities, and activities of the library are aligned with those of the College through completion of the college’s integrated planning process.
    • Provide leadership, oversight, and supervision for full-time and part-time library staff, to include the hiring process, day-to-day management, training, scheduling, and annual evaluations.
    • Manage collection development; ensure collection is adequate and appropriate to meet the needs of the college community.
    • Oversee processes related to library databases and FOLIO.
    • Manage patron financial encumbrances.
    • Manage library budget.
    • Responsible for fiscally prudent and innovative long-range planning related to library collection and services and Hamra Library facilities.
    • Conduct regular department meetings and participate in division meetings.
    • Represent the library in a professional manner at college councils and committees, and at area, state, and regional library consortia, such as MOBIUS and Amigos.
    • Maintain library web page(s).
    • Provide friendly and effective service for patrons at reference/circulation desks as needed.
    • Assist patrons with library related questions, including via live chat during work hours.
    • Exhibit exemplary attendance and punctuality.
    • Comply with college policies and procedures.
    • Perform other duties as assigned, including attending college functions, serving on committees, and attending community events.

    Non-Essential Job Duties

    • Produce departmental displays and documents, to include an annual usage report submitted to the Assistant Vice Chancellor.
    • Provide library orientation classroom tours as requested and scheduled.

    Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

    • Master’s degree in library science from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited program.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of library operations, including contemporary library practices, trends, and emerging technologies.
    • Three years of relevant experience.
    • Good understanding of research procedures in one or more academic disciplines.
    • Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service.
    • One year of leadership experience.
    • Ability to work well with others.
    • Strong oral and written communication skills.
    • Ability to use information technology for professional productivity (such as Microsoft Office Suite).

    Preferred Knowledge Skills & Abilities

    • Two years of experience with instruction and training of diverse learners.
    • Two years of experience managing electronic databases.
    • Two years of experience with WordPress, or similar content management system.
    • Experience with Colleague, or similar enterprise resource planning or student information system.
    • Experience working within a collegiate setting.
