Licensed Physical Therapist Assistant assists one or more physical therapists in evaluations, tests, and treatments of patients. Prepares patients and equipment for therapy and implements treatment plans as instructed, including exercises, stretching maneuvers, hands-on therapy, and equipment. Being a Licensed Physical Therapist Assistant records patient's reaction to treatment and provides status reports at the end of each treatment to the physical therapist. Requires an associate degree. Additionally, Licensed Physical Therapist Assistant requires State physical therapist assistant license. Typically reports to a physical therapist. Licensed Physical Therapist Assistant's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. Certification and/or licensing in the position's specialty is the main requirement. Responsible for assisting the physical therapist with the administration of a medically prescribed physical therapy program for assigned patients/clients. Functions under the direct supervision of the physical therapist responsible for a specific patient’s/client’s care.
The staff therapist assistant assumes the responsibility and accountability for providing physical therapy modalities and treatment procedures as determined by a treatment plan of care established by a physical therapist and in accordance with established facility and departmental policies and procedures while maintaining the highest degree of quality care. The therapist assistant works cooperatively with other patient team personnel in maintaining standards of professional physical therapy practice and interdisciplinary teamwork.
