Assesses medical necessity of patient admissions, surgical and diagnostic procedures, and other related services. Being a Licensed Practical Nurse - Medical Management conducts pre-certification or authorization, and monitors compliance with established medical guidelines and policies. May assist members in appeals for denied services. Additionally, Licensed Practical Nurse - Medical Management requires a high school diploma. Typically reports to a registered nurse or supervisor. DUTIES:
Clock-in and out promptly, on time.
Report to nursing unit assigned to receive report from nursing personnel of pervious shift.
Assumes charge duty of unit.
Must complete narcotic and other control drug count with nursing personnel of previous shift and sign medication nurses 8-hour audit and receiving responsibility record.
Administers and documents medication as given. Observes for and reports any medication reactions to Charge Nurse or to Physician, as applicable.
Renders nursing care to residents within an assigned unit.
Maintains records reflecting residents condition, medication and treatment as given.
Establishes a good rapport with residents, families, and co-workers.
Supervises all non-professional personnel in giving quality nursing care.
Encourages non-professional staff in constantly improving quality of nursing care.
Assist as a team member to develop resident care plans as assigned, and assists implementing the plan on the unit.
Accepts and processes written and phone orders from physician.
Assist in providing direct resident care (i.e., personal care, bath, elimination needs, O.O.B. regime, etc.).
May be required to perform treatment of residents requiring attendance (i.e., changing of dressings, insertions and irrigation of catheter, tube feedings, R.O.M. exercises and other treatments as ordered by physician).
Reports any changes in residents condition to Physician and Director of Nursing services as necessary.
Assists with passing of trays and feeding of residents.
Attends specific in-service programs when scheduled.
Attends staff meetings as assigned.
Assists with evaluating performance of personnel being supervised.
Makes recommendations to supervisors regarding disciplinary measures.
Assists in and/or notes all absences and tardiness by unit employees, issues reprimands where appropriate, obtains substitutes as thought necessary.
Makes work assignments to nursing aides based upon an evaluation of the aides abilities and experience.
Responsible for adherence by unit employees of all company rules and policies, is authorized to administer discipline as appropriate based upon evaluation of the circumstances surrounding incidents.
Inspects work of unit employees.
Successful completion of a 90-day probationary period.
Adheres to No Lift Policy.
Verifies actual time worked by unit employees when time clock is not used or is inoperable.
Authorized overtime of unit employees and selects employees for overtime work as necessary.
Uses personal judgment to authorize unit employees to take time off from scheduled duties when requested.
Makes independent recommendations to Director of Nursing regarding employee hiring, retention and promotion.
Assists in admissions and discharges of residents.
Documents nurses notes as necessary.
Makes rounds with physician.
Contacts RN on call for tasks unable to perform as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
Must have knowledge of team Nursing, be willing to adjust to specific assignments (i.e., charge, meds, treatments, etc.).
Written notice of two weeks resignation is required.
Responsible for shift coverage on next shift. Responsible for contacting licensed / non-licensed personnel for adequate coverage.
Demonstrate competency using current clinical software system.
Other duties as assigned by the Director of Nursing.
