As a Licensed Practical Nurse, you will have the opportunity to work in a setting that is unique, challenging and always secure.

    POSITION SUMMARY

    The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is responsible for assisting in the delivery of patient care through the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation. Under the supervision of Registered Nurses, directs and guides patient teaching activities commensurate with education and demonstrated competencies. Utilizes established medical record system as applicable throughout the scope of duties and responsibilities.

    • Works effectively with medical and nursing staff, patients, patient families as appropriate, security staff at all levels, and administrative and support staff (i.e., pharmacy, laboratory, etc.)

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Under the supervision of Registered Nurse, assist in the assessment of the physical, psychological and social dimensions of patients in the health care unit and, as necessary in the housing units.
    • Assist in planning and implementing individual treatment programs, in the health care unit and housing unit, by utilizing available resources and consulting with registered nurses, physicians and correctional officers.
    • Implement medical plan through administering medications and intervention in accordance with physician instructions.
    • Document nursing encounters, patient response, effectiveness, complications etc., and communicate information to supervisory personnel and physicians, in accordance with physician's orders.
    • Assist in maintaining working and living areas and supplies in good order.
    • Serve as a member of a nursing care and treatment team, and assist physician as assigned.
    • Use available in-house resource personnel and departments for treatment/consultation.
    • Implement clinical and technical aspects of care in accordance with established policies and procedures.
    • Take vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration and blood pressure).
    • Apply and change dressings.
    • Provide for emotional and physical comfort and safety of patients.
    • Assist with activities of daily living with special attention to therapeutic significance.
    • Supervise inmates in the maintenance, cleanliness and sanitation of the environment.
      ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
      • Demonstrate respect dignity and confidentiality of patient information.
      • Assists with orientation of new employees.
      • Assesse personal and learning development needs.
      • Comply with correctional facility policies and procedures
      • Perform within the normal limits of the State Nurse Practice Act, Code of Ethics for Nurses, policies and procedures and facility policy/procedures and standards.

      PHYSICAL DEMANDS

      Essential duties are routinely performed in a general office and clinical environment. Duties may require work in at a station/desk and entail paperwork, use of computers, fax machines, copiers, and other business machines and medical equipment. Essential duties may require the following physical demands: the strength to lift and carry material weighing up to 30 pounds; vision to read printed materials and computer screen; walking; reaching; carrying; stooping; bending; squatting; prolonged sitting; handling (hand movement); hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone; intellectual skills including short and long term memory, abstract reasoning, and decision making.

      Must be able to ambulate throughout the facility for extended periods of time; specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus; must be able to clearly communicate orally and via written and typed correspondence and notes using various forms, records, charts, and electronic media.

      This position may require rotating assignments, operating on a 24 hour a day, 7 days a week schedule where employee is subject to both voluntary and mandatory overtime.

      Employee may be exposed to a challenging environment, which may include exposure to Bloodborne and Airborne Pathogens, and loud noises.

      Minimum Requirements:

      ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

      Office

      Standard medical setting in a correctional facility, which includes daily interfacing with inmates, correctional staff, and health care personnel.

      Temperature extremes may be encountered while moving throughout the facility outdoors and indoors in buildings without air conditioning.

      Current Arizona Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) License

      Graduate from an accredited school of nursing
