Life Underwriting Director directs and oversees the life insurance underwriting program for individuals and/or groups. Responsible for ensuring integrity of underwriting activities and processes. Being a Life Underwriting Director provides coaching to underwriters and assists on more complex applications. Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent. Additionally, Life Underwriting Director typically requires Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) certification or Fellow Life Management Institute (FLMI) designation. Typically reports to top management. The Life Underwriting Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Life Underwriting Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. Position Highlights *Develop a knowledge base of Genesis policies and protocols which impact patient/resident outcomes. *Evaluate patient/resident care outcomes by working with the interdisciplinary team. *Engage in the budgetary process, payroll analysis, reimbursement issues, and staffing ratios to become educated on the budgetary process*Obtain a knowledge base of state and federal regulatory process, quality indicators, quality measures, certification agencies, i.e. JCAHO *Develop a knowledge of the relationship of the MDS to Medicare, Medicaid, PPS, and RUGS. *Learn the characteristics of each payer source, and the implications of each on the care delivery process *Establish and facilitate employee relations by working through employee challenges and by participating in nursing center retention team and related programs *Educate various levels of staff to provide care and services which meet or exceed patient/resident expectations.
