Life Underwriting Director directs and oversees the life insurance underwriting program for individuals and/or groups. Responsible for ensuring integrity of underwriting activities and processes. Being a Life Underwriting Director provides coaching to underwriters and assists on more complex applications. Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent. Additionally, Life Underwriting Director typically requires Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) certification or Fellow Life Management Institute (FLMI) designation. Typically reports to top management. The Life Underwriting Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Life Underwriting Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. Assistant Director of Residential Life - Monterey Campus

  • Position Purpose- The Assistant Director independently manages the Institute’s residential housing systems, processes, budget and communications, directly supervises the student residential staff, and oversees residential programming and student housing support.

    This role is on site in Monterey, CA and includes housing in a two bedroom apartment unit.

    This is a full time, benefits eligible, exempt role. The hiring range for this position is $51,343.5 to $64,174.5/year .

    Core Responsibilities

    Manage the 85 bed Munras residence hall, including housing assignments, move in/out, contracts, room changes, and all residential communications

    Recruit, hire, train, and supervise a student residential staff of 4 to 5 reportees.

    Provide support and referrals to campus resources for students; assist with student conduct and student crisis management in collaboration with the Associate Dean for Student Services

    Establish strong relationships with students based on trust, consistency, fairness and accountability, and interact with staff, and critical stakeholders regarding residential concerns

    Establish, track, and report on key performance indicators for housing, and critically examine and refine/revise all housing policies and processes as necessary

    Efficiently and effectively communicate with other offices especially in emergency and daily operations

    In collaboration with the Director of Student Life & Engagement coordinate and manage residential life events and programming to enhance and support inclusive residential community engagement.

    Participate in year-round on-call rotation for Monterey, CA campus providing crisis intervention and serving as a resource or referral agent, including during Institute breaks

    Additional Responsibilities

    Works independently, uses good judgment in all decisions, and is capable of comprehensive leadership of housing systems and effective on-call crisis response and intervention. Work outside of traditional hours may include consultative assistance to staff, attendance at special events and functions, and staff training and development participation.

    Manages the housing software system, residential housing website, housing contracts, move-in/move-out processes, room assignments, housing lottery, residential housing queries, residence building operations communications and all other related processes.

    Monitors and communicates priorities and concerns to Facilities and Campus Security including custodial, maintenance, touchpad codes, and safety/security concerns

    In collaboration with Student Services, Campus Security, Facilities, and the Office of the VPAA, develop and/or adapt relevant residential life policies to support a safe, inclusive, and engaging experience for students living in the residential building.

    Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate Residential Housing Advisors (RAs) and Community Assistants (CAs). Work with relevant Middlebury and MIIS departments as needed to develop and implement RA/CA and other staff training each semester.

    Respond to and triage on-call student residential housing emergencies

    Work with the Associate Dean of Student Services on student conduct-related matters and emergencies in the residential building. Maintain accurate, timely, and complete records around students of concern and report this information to the VPAA and Associate Dean of Student Services.

    In collaboration with the Director of Student Life & Engagement, the RAs and CAs, coordinate and manage residential life events and programming to enhance and support inclusive residential community engagement.

    Creates and maintains housing applications, manages housing assignments in housing software, checks students in and out as needed and coordinates room codes with other appropriate staff including Security and Facilities

    Oversees and manages the operational calendar including move in and out each term

    Oversees all programming efforts and assists RAs in programming to enhance the residential experience

    Utilizes conduct and care management software.

    Requirements

    Position Prerequisites

    Master’s degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education Administration, Counseling, or related field required

    Minimum of three years of professional housing and residence life experience with increasing responsibilities required

    Advanced level knowledge of current theories, processes and practices related to student affairs, student development, and residential education

    Demonstrated commitment to principles of inclusivity

    Demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional growth and development in all areas of responsibility and explicitly equity and inclusion

    Advanced proficiency in responding to campus-based emergencies and crisis situations

    Occasional late night, weekend and on call responsibilities required, and required to live on campus in a provided apartment.
