Being a Light Assembler identifies and sorts units that fail quality standards. May disassemble units to repair or refit parts as necessary. Additionally, Light Assembler operates hand tools, power tools, and other manufacturing assembly line equipment to assemble units. Typically requires a high school diploma. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Light Assembler works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job.     SCOPE OF WORK:

    Under general supervision, person operates a variety of heavy equipment including, but not limited to, dump trucks, backhoe, track hoe, skid loader, trencher, digger derrick, man lifts, locating equipment, and boring machine.

    When not operating the machinery, the operator works as a laborer. Maintains equipment in proper operating condition by performing simple preventive maintenance tasks, such as checking the fluid & grease levels and tire pressure before each use. May, at times, be required to work as crew leader by directing other employees on the job. Assists others in backing their equipment. Assists in cleaning equipment, using proper materials.

    Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality, seamless customer service.

    Qualifications


    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    1. The employee should keep all materials, tools, and equipment in an orderly fashion and keep the work area clean at all times, demonstrating safe work habits and proper care of tools and equipment.
      1. Material handling and organizing work and storage areas
    2. Also preforms the following:
      1. Assists in wire pulls
      2. Mounting and strapping loaded equipment, tools and supplies
      3. Understands safety requirements
    3. Able to operate locator laser transit
    4. Able to operate locator
    5. Able to complete excavation permits
    6. Other duties as assigned by company management.

    POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

    1. LICENSES Current Driver's License, Class A, B CDL, and have own transportation, some provided.
    2. EDUCATION High School Diploma or GED.
    3. EXPERIENCE - Five years experience operating heavy and light construction equipment.
    4. MUST PASS A MANDATORY URINALYSIS DRUG/ALCOHOL SCREENING and Background check.
    5. Must be able to read, write and understand the English language.
    6. Must be authorized to work in the US.

    WORKING CONDITIONS:

    1. Job requires working in all elements, depending on job location, time of year, heat, cold, rain, snow.
    2. Work from all type ladders (step ladders up to 14', "A" frame ladders and all size extension ladders and carry and relocate up to 12' step ladder by one's self.
    3. Perform work at various heights, up to 90' or higher from ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, cat walks or other safe work areas.
    4. Work in restricted areas (switchgear room, manholes, utility tunnels, crawl spaces, attics).
    5. Wear personal protective equipment hard hat, safety glasses, respirator when required.
    6. Repetitive use of arms, hands and fingers.
    7. Able to work 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week, overtime as required and night shifts.

    SKILLS:

    1. Positively identify colors of wires.
    2. Knowledge of - The operation of light and heavy equipment operation & maintenance
      1. Ability to read understand, follow and enforce applicable safety procedures
      2. Knowledge of basic vehicle inspection & maintenance including tire pressure, checking oil, water and other fluid levels
      3. Traffic laws, ordinances and rules involved with equipment operation
      4. Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to position
    3. Ability to:
      1. Complete forms to record or report information in standard format as specified by the form
      2. Identify repairs needed on equipment
      3. Work cooperatively with other employees and customers
      4. Safely back equipment
      5. Perceive auditory signals such as various tones, beeps, etc.
      6. Observe or monitor objects to determine compliance with prescribed operating or safety standards
      7. Make fine, highly controlled muscular movements to adjust the position of a control mechanism
      8. Coordinate the movement of more than one limb simultaneously to operate multiple equipment controls.
      9. Make hand/arm movements to give directions to a co-worker backing a piece of equipment.
      10. Set up or remove barricades, traffic cones or similar objects
      11. Work safely under hazardous conditions where physical danger exists due to mechanical equipment (i.e. grinding, cutting, crushing, etc.)
      12. Exercise sound judgment in completing assignments
      13. Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others
    4. Communication- Ability to:
      1. Understand and follow written and oral instructions in the English language
      2. Able to read and comprehend simple instructions, short memos and correspondence.
      3. Able to write simple correspondence, submit weekly payroll hours, etc.
      4. Able to understand manufacturers instructions regarding proper maintenance of fluid levels, grease levels, tire pressure, etc. of equipment.

    PHYSICAL FUNCTION:

    1. Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, crawl, climb, kneel, balance, push, pull and reach over head.
    2. Lift 51 pounds.
    3. Constantly moving your feet.
    4. Climb ladders.
    5. Completing overhead work for full day assignments.
    6. Possess good vision (normal or corrected).
    7. Responsible for securing tools and materials from storage areas to complete their assigned tasks.
