Lineman constructs, maintains, and repairs overhead and underground transmission lines. Performs site preparation tasks, including digging holes or trenches, installing anchors, climbing poles, and using equipment like digger derricks, aerial lifts, pulling and tensioning equipment, forklifts, and dump trucks. Being a Lineman installs wire and cable. Follows all safety regulations and procedures. Additionally, Lineman work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions. Typically requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Requires a valid Driver's License. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Lineman works under moderate supervision. Responsible for performing skilled work in the construction,
maintenance and repair of energized and de-energized electric
distribution lines and equipment up to 25kv without supervision. Duties include but are not limited to the
following: construction and maintenance of distribution lines, emergency restoration on
services, secondary and primary conductors and
equipment.
Minimum
Requirements:
5 years minimum electric distribution construction
experience. Qualified to work on
energized high and low voltages up to 25kv without direct supervision, climb wood poles, operate a bucket truck and perform pole top
rescues. Must follow all safe work
practices. If not certified, will be required to attend certification courses.
Must
be able to fluently read, write, speak and comprehend English. Must have a high
level of attention to detail and mechanical aptitude. Must be computer literate. May be required to work weekends, evenings
and holidays. Class A CDL required.
State wide travel required. Required to
have and maintain Driver License.
Preferred
Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Knowledge of
electric distribution construction specifications for voltages up to 25kv
preferred. Knowledge and understanding of single phase and three phase low
voltage and metering specifications preferred.
Physical
Requirements:
Must be able to stand for long periods of time on varied
surfaces. Must be able to move freely, including ability to stoop, crawl, and
bend at the knees and waist. Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds unassisted.
Must be able to pass pre-employment screening that includes background and drug
testing. May be required to work long and unpredictable hours. Position
requires working outdoors in all types of weather.
