This position is in our Commercial Litigation Practice Group and performs a variety of support duties and delivers high-quality services to internal and external clients, exhibiting a commitment to integrity and excellence. This position requires thorough knowledge of all firm and practice-specific administrative processes and procedures, information technology systems, research tools, and a broad-based understanding of the clients, matters, and associated practices. The scope of responsibilities includes prioritizing, managing, and following through on multiple projects, and communicating effectively, courteously, and professionally with clients, attorneys, staff, and peers.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

    • Drafts correspondence, pleadings, discovery, motions and orders (ranging from simple to complex) and notices such as notices of deposition, notices of appearance, and subpoenas for appearance at deposition or trial or for documents
    • Schedules and maintains depositions and other court-imposed deadlines
    • Performs in-depth legal research – retrieves cases or public record information using Lexis Nexis or Westlaw; internet research; uses locate applicable cases, statutes, court rules, and regulations on specific legal issues
    • Manages, oversees, and prepares large document productions (several thousand pages)
    • Sorts, indexes, categorizes, orders, manipulates, and organizes the documents/data including summarizing medical records, deposition transcripts, and discovery responses
    • Acts as liaison between clients, experts, vendors, opposing counsel, and other parties in litigation or transaction
    • Files pleadings with courts, through ECF or conventionally in the county courts
    • Assists attorneys with interrogatories and other discovery requests
    • Assists with motions, retrieving and identifying exhibits, proper citations of exhibits, case law cite checks, etc.
    • Assists with preparation for depositions, hearings, mediations, and trials, including preparation of trial notebooks, exhibits, deposition designations, and demonstrative aids
    • Performs legal investigations consisting of gathering, organizing, and summarizing relevant information
    • Assists attorneys with case management and analyses of case facts
    • Conducts client and witness interviews and fact identification
    • Assists with voir dire, jury selection, and witnesses preparation

    CANDIDATE’S KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

    • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
    • Superior technology skills – must demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite products.
    • Experience reviewing and summarizing medical records.
    • Ability to prioritize, organize and manage work load.
    • Takes the initiative in handling projects and anticipating what needs to be done.
    • Works collaboratively and cooperatively with others.
    • Requires a high degree of professionalism and the ability to exercise good judgment.
    • Demonstrates teamwork.
    • Detail oriented.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Two or four year degree and/or paralegal certificate from an accredited paralegal program with at least 3-5 years of experience.
