Job Description
Small litigation law firm in Franklin, Tennessee with emphasis on personal injury defense, insurance coverage litigation, workers compensation defense, commercial practice, and will preparation seeks organized and experienced case manager paralegal for full-time position.
The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate experience in the following areas:
- Solid knowledge of the Tennessee civil court system and its structure.
- Ability to and oversight of medical record acquisition, including ensuring record requests are prepared, submitted, and supplemented prior to case management conferences and depositions.
- Oversight of outgoing subpoenas and ability to communicate with subpoenaed entities should they fail to comply, i.e., email, correspondence and motion to compel production.
- Ability to competently summarize medical records and supervise others performing summaries.
- Ability to research business entities and registered agents.
- Ability to prepare notebooks and organize documents for experts, including bates stamping medical records and other exhibits or evidence.
- Ability to draft pleadings – motions to compel, deposition notices, subpoenas, motions for extensions, etc.
- Compile responsive documents for request for production of documents and ensure that privileged and work product documents are not produced.
- Draft tailored outgoing (“offensive”) discovery for attorney review based upon knowledge of the specific case and issues in dispute.
- Ability to update clients via telephone, email, or correspondence, in a professional and informative manner.
- Respond to written discovery propounded by opposing counsel within 30 days of receipt.
- Ability to research basic legal questions.
- Ability to communicate with witnesses.
- Ability to disburse settlements.
- Demonstration of attention to detail, willingness to connect with the cases and individuals the firm represents.
- Ability to competently record your time entries in Tabs3 (billing and timekeeping software) as per billing and firm guidelines.
- Understand productivity through hourly billing and associated profitability.
- Manage and maintain the attorneys' calendars – being “conscientious of the calendar” by demonstrating knowledge of legal processes, i.e., when to schedule depositions and hearings by factoring in preparation time, or responses to motions.
- Scheduling depositions with other paralegals or attorneys.
- Scheduling hearings with other paralegals or attorneys.
- Competent management of the calendar to ensure workable appointments with associated preparation time.
- Knowledge and ability to electronically file pleadings in both state and federal court systems.
- Ability to utilize Pacer to procure pleadings.
- Coordination of court reporters, interpreters, videographers.
- Manage legal assistant to ensure entry of invoice receipts into Tabs3, and requests for payment.
- Preparation of initial case strategy correspondences, initial evaluations, and 90-day status updates in litigation files for attorney review and signature.
- Ability and knowledge of communications with clerks, judicial assistants, and court staff, in order to schedule hearings, determine case status, and locate/ procure documents.
- Applicants must have the capacity to self-start with a "total case" mentality as opposed to "task-based."
Salary based on experience and ability. Position includes eligibility for a retirement plan, paid time off, and health insurance. Candidates will need to provide references, preferably former employers. A background check (including driving record) and drug screen will also be required. Candidates selected for an interview should be prepared to demonstrate their experience through short testing and written skill evaluation.

Pay: $54,000.00 - $63,000.00 per year
