As a Laboratory Examiner, you are required to frequently travel throughout the Commonwealth to perform on-site evaluations of all areas of the clinical laboratory. You review records of the complexity of testing, laboratory personnel qualifications, instrumentation, quality assurance, laboratory management practices, and other factors to ensure compliance with all required regulations. You prepare either a letter of compliance, letter of deficiency, or a letter of adverse action to the laboratory director based upon the on-site visit. You evaluate the plan of correction received in response to a letter of deficiency, including supportive documents furnished and recommend for or against state licensure, or CLIA '88 certification to ensure that the laboratory is aware of its licensure and/or certification status. In addition, you review and evaluate data from alternative laboratory monitoring protocols to ensure compliance with applicable state regulations and federal requirements.
