General Job Summary
The Loan Officer (LO) a.k.a. Mortgage Consultant is the primary contact between ULG and the clients. LO addresses client inquiries, evaluates their home finance needs, explains and identifies suitable products/programs, determines applicants’ eligibility, collects required documents, explains process and cost, discusses pricing and locks rate, starts and facilitates underwriting process through closing, etc. LO is responsible for managing new, assigned and existing leads, marketing and representing ULG at various events/venues, learning and applying applicable guidelines and tools as set forth by the management.
Summary of Essential Job Functions
Knowledge Management:
- Thoroughly understand all assigned ULG products and programs
- Maintain working knowledge of all applicable ULG/UB policies and procedures, internal and external compliance requirements, investor guidelines, state and federal regulations and guidelines, etc.
- Proficiency in understanding of LOS, software tools, third party websites, etc.
- Understand published rates, closing costs and explain to customers
- Obtain and maintain necessary licenses/certification as required by ULG
Customer Relationship Management:
- Respond to customer’s inquiries in a timely manner with proper phone and/or email follow up
- Intelligently discuss customer’s requirements and explain ULG products and programs and various facets of process
- Keep customer updated with ongoing progress of their transactions on a timely basis
- Comply with customer management guidelines as set forth by the management
- Maintain at least weekly customer contact during pre-qualification stage
- Maintain contact with inactive customers/prospects on at least quarterly and seasonal basis
- Maintain high levels of customer service at all times while servicing/facilitating customers/prospects inquiries
- Send thank you emails to all closed transactions
- Make every effort to attend all closings within reasonably commutable distance
Process Management:
- Proficient in completing applications using various available channels
- Provide timely pre-qualification letter or facilitate conditional pre-approval process
- Interact with processing team as triggered by the process update, phase change, etc.
- Specify and collect required documentation/explanation from each applicant(s)
- Review documents and submit complete packages to the processing team in a timely manner
- Manage pipeline for all originated loans through closing
- Respond/follow up promptly to processing team and applicants for updates/additional requirement
- Providing/forwarding required disclosures and notices to applicant(s) in a timely manner
- Manage turnaround requirement for each process/phase as set by the management
- Meet file quality standards and ratios as set forth by management
Marketing Management:
- Attend ULG sponsored events as required by management
- Builds relationships with referral sources such as realtors/builders/CPAs
Goals Setting & Management:
- Meets monthly and annual production and performance goals set forth by management
- Prepares individual goal statement, think ahead; align personal success goals with ULG success goals
Other:
- Participate in all required meetings including but not limited to weekly sales meeting, monthly staff meeting, bi-weekly marketing sub-committee meeting, periodical team meeting, etc.
- Assist local and out-of-state team members as needed

Requirements
Education, Training and Work Experience
- High School diploma or GED required
- Bachelor’s degree desired
- Minimum 1 year previous mortgage related experience required
- Minimum 1 year previous mortgage origination experience preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Maintain & foster positive relationships with customers and business partners
- Complete all assigned training in a timely manner
- Organizational skills with ability to prioritize and meet deadlines while maintaining high degree of accuracy
- Mortgage origination experience desired
- Sales oriented, possesses good interpersonal and communication skills and have a strong desire to succeed
- Excellent customer service and follow up
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, strong team player, and self-motivated
- Has thorough knowledge of and complies with applicable laws and regulations
- Ability to manage highly confidential information
- Able to effectively problem solve
- Serves as a training resource to teammates
- Strong knowledge of using Mortgage Builder

Working Environment
Primary working environment is within an indoor climate-controlled office space. Employee may be subject to florescent lighting, dust, and other normal indoor-allergens. Employee will work in close proximity of coworkers and occasionally independently in quiet environments.
Physical Requirements
- Able to lift up to 20 pounds
- Extended periods of sitting (at computer desk)
- Standing/walking for extended periods of time
- May be exposed to extended periods of interaction with other (listening/talking/taking notes)
- Complete repetitive tasks (including operation of computer mouse/keyboard)
