    The purpose of this position is to perform skilled locksmith work in the repair, alteration, installation and keying of locks on buildings, equipment, lockers and vehicles; resolving immediate operational, security and/or safety concerns. In collaboration with the Security Department, designs and maintains the campus keying system. In collaboration with the One Card office, supports, maintains and repairs card access and proximity access systems. Establishes and maintains a preventive maintenance program. May occasionally be assigned to responsibilities associated with the Building Maintenance Worker and the Carpenter.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:
    Installs locking systems (e.g. doors, door hardware, closures, panic hardware, changes lock combinations, security bolts, equipment, lockers, vehicles, hinges, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining facilities in a safe, and secure operating condition.

    • Upon receipt of Security Department authorization, re-keys locks, cuts new or duplicate keys, and changes combinations to ensure security of facilities. Typical examples of locks/keys requiring re-tooling include, but are not limited to building keys, file cabinets, desks, storage cabinets, intrusion alarms, lost or stolen locks/keys, etc.
    • Diagnoses malfunctions of a variety of locking /access control systems for the purpose of identifying repair/replacement needs necessary to maintain systems.
    • Repairs various items and all door/window/cabinet closing and securing systems (e.g. locks, worn tumblers, shortens tumblers, springs, changes combinations, exit hardware, hinges, doorframes, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring that items are available, safe and in reliable working condition.
    • Inspects facilities, systems and their components for the purpose of ensuring safety and identifying necessary repairs and providing an ongoing program of preventive maintenance.
    • Fabricates unique locks and locking devices for the purpose of addressing specialized security issues within the College.
    • Performs adjustments, repairs and other modifications to doors, closers/operators, hinges, locking systems and/or frames for the purpose of ensuring proper closing and security.
    • Coordinates with administration and other trades for the purpose of completing projects/work orders efficiently.
    • Informs personnel regarding procedures and/or status of work orders for the purpose of providing necessary information for making decisions, taking appropriate action and/or complying with health and safety regulations.
    • Maintains the strict confidentiality of sensitive information and security of materials - specifically as it relates to securing and protecting the lock , core and locksmith key inventory so as to ensure that their distribution is tightly controlled.
    • Prepares and updates manual and electronic records (e.g. Keystone 600 system, card codes, daily paperwork/log, time and materials, key and material records, locksmith key inventory, etc.) for the purpose of providing documentation in compliance with regulations and/or conveying information.
    • Maintains a consistent record of response to emergency situations during or after hours for the purpose of resolving immediate safety and security concerns.
    • Removes snow from sidewalks, entrances, courtyards, parking lots, etc. using shovels, snow blowers, snow plows and other related snow removal equipment, as directed in "Snow and Ice Control Plan for The College of Saint Rose" .
    • Communicates using email routinely with supervisor and members of department, as well as other College departments as needed.
    • Provides comprehensive notes and summaries to the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) upon completion of work assignments.
    • Utilizes materials and equipment in a sensible manner and is a good steward of College resources.
    • Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures
    • Attends all safety, equipment and material training as scheduled by supervisor
    • Assists trades personnel (Electrician, Plumber, Carpenter, HVAC technician, Fire Alarm Technician, and Mechanic) when work assignments require additional resources and as directed by management.

    Job Requirements:
    • At least five years' experience as a journey-level locksmith in a commercial, industrial or facilities operations setting. Experience with BEST mechanical and electrified locksets is highly desired.
    • Experience as a locksmith in an institutional setting such as college, hospital, etc. is preferred.
    • Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and techniques used in keyed locking systems as well as card access systems.
    • Demonstrated evidence of the ability to maintain highly confidential documents and information and a secure lock/key inventory is required.
    • Ability to read and use manufacturer's code books, interpret wiring diagrams for systems and follow operational manuals, manufacturers maintenance instructions to repair and install various locking mechanisms and components
    • Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and techniques used in building maintenance.
    • Must be able to frequently lift and carry objects weighing up to 75 lbs.
    • Must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide
    • Must be able to read instructions and safety rules, write sentences, communicate verbally, and follow instructions
    • Must be able to climb stairs, ladders, lifts, etc. as well as stand, reach, stoop, crouch, sit, kneel, climb, crawl and walk extensively across multiple areas of campus.
    • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision
    • A valid NYS drivers' license and the ability to acquire and maintain certification as a College authorized driver is required.
    • Basic level computer skills using Windows, Outlook web access. Experience using the Keystone 600 system is preferred.

    Work Schedule: Monday through Friday - Must be available for ON CALL

    Ability to consistently respond to emergency situations after hours and on weekends to resolve immediate safety and security concerns.

    Employees in this position are considered "essential personnel", which requires them to report for duty during weather/other emergencies that may result in College closings or delays. Regular work assignments change to performing snow removal duties such as shoveling, snowblowing, etc.

    Pay Range: $19.00-$21.00/hour, depending upon experience
