Being a Locksmith may install or maintain emergency exit systems and electronic access equipment and devices. May design new key or lock systems for an organization. Additionally, Locksmith maintains a thorough records of changes and additions to an organization's key systems. Typically requires a high school diploma. Typically reports to a supervisor. THIS JOB IS FOR LOCKSMITH / SECURITY TECHNICIANS
Job Purpose:
Selling, servicing and installing Locks, intrusion security, access control, CCTV systems and related products. Planning and maintaining locking system, installing locks and related components; opening and repairing locks; cutting keys; maintaining equipment, and supplies.
Duties:
* Opens locks by identifying type of lock or locking system; reading lock codes; drilling, picking, and taking impressions; removing cylinders; including disarming alarms.
* Repairing, servicing and Installing locks. Knowledge of keys, locks and lock types.
* Cut keys by choosing key blank, including barrel, flat, cylinder, and tubular; identifying bow and keyway grooves; referring to key blank directories.
* Establishes lock security by installing disc and pin tumbler, key-in-knob, deadbolt, cylinder key mortise, rim, padlock, and electric release locks, butts and hinges, high-security plates and locks, including push-button combination locks, door reinforcers, hasps, door holders, and wide-angle door viewers; establishing master key system; installing safes.
* Security plans by conducting a security survey; determining access, locking, and exit requirements; identifying security measures for doors, door frames, door locks, panic exit devices; determine placement of security cameras, alarms,
* Installing card readers, electric strikes, magnetic locks, cameras, power supplies, door contacts, smoke detectors, control panels wiring, software and training.
* Maintains tools and equipment by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.
* Maintains secure environment by keeping lock and access information confidential; complying with legal regulations.
* Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading security publications.
* Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
