LOG MARKETING MANAGER - SOUTHERN ARKANSAS

  • Responsible for coordination of marketing wood fiber products in the assigned region to internal and external customers in order to generate the highest returns to PotlatchDeltic. Responsible for executing strategies to achieve objectives in the areas of market development, log sales, pricing and margin, wood flow and value maximization.

    The salary range for this position is $95,208.88 - $158,681.47. 

    This position is bonus eligible with a target value of 15% of salary. 

    Wood Flow

    • Coordinate wood flow for assigned region from Fee harvest operations. Monitor fiber deliveries to internal and external customers to assure that delivery schedules, log sorts, and log quality criteria are met.
    • Provide forestry staff with log sorting instructions and volume commitments.
    • Meet with foresters to adjust harvesting activities according to monthly, quarterly and annual delivery plans to ensure maximum market value is received and customer commitments are met.
    • Monitor harvesting, sales destinations and delivery of products on a regular basis to ensure proper delivery to the specific market.

    Marketing

    • Negotiate quarterly, annual and multi-year log sale agreements and log supply agreements to meet sales realization targets.
    • Research and implement business development opportunities that enhance wood fiber values.
    • Develop quarterly and annual marketing plans that maximize log margin for assigned region.
    • Evaluate customer annual usage and balance deliveries based on customer needs.
    • Monitor market conditions that affect log values, including mill inventories, wood product pricing trends, mill residual values and customer cost structures.
    • Ensure wood is delivered on time and log specifications are met.

    Customer Focus

    • Develop solid working relationships with internal and external log customers. Act as primary point of contact for log customers from throughout the region.
    • Discuss wood quality issues with customers and resource foresters to maintain a positive relationship between both parties.
    • Collaborate with customers in the areas of market development, logistics management and business systems to add value to delivered fiber.
    • Notify customers of any changes in delivery schedules immediately.

    Administrative

    • Participate as a member of the Gulf South Leadership Team.
    • Lead the Gulf South Region’s monthly and quarterly financial forecast process.
    • Participate in the production of annual operating, capital, and administrative budgets.
    • Provide input, direction and guidance to strategic harvest planning process. Evaluate strategic plans and develop long term marketing plans accordingly.
    • Provide leadership for the log quality, sorting and merchandizing functions.
    • Participate in all Safety and Environmental Management System (EMS), and Forest Certification initiatives related training activities to fulfill assigned responsibilities.
    • Assist Real Estate staff in appraisal of land acquisition projects.

    Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Forestry, Marketing or related field required. Masters degree preferred.
    • Minimum ten (10) years previous forestry-related experience required, previous procurement experience preferred.
    • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
    • Demonstrated strong analytical skills with ability to analyze production options and mixes to maximize value in changing markets required.
    • Ability to effectively negotiate with internal and external customers and ability to analyze situations and make decisions in a fast paced environment required.
    • Ability to think strategically and make business decisions with limited or uncertain information.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to lead, organize and direct people and projects.
