Summary
The ideal candidate will source and execute the purchase, sale and delivery of logs. They will be comfortable in maintaining supplier and customer relationships and be an expert negotiator.
Duties and Responsibilities
Individuals must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or abilities required.
· Assist with implementation of a Log Purchase & Sale Plan
· Determine the log requirements to be purchased from and sold to 3rd Parties, detailing the species, diameter class, and corresponding volumes
· Source, inspect, and value logs from sellers
· Build positive working relationships with all 3rd Party Landowners, Log Buyers, Timber Operators and Company Managers to promote the Company as the customer/supplier of choice
· Monitor local and regional log markets to assess delivered log values and delivery costs
· Complete formal bids for log purchases, consistent with the Log Purchase & Sale Plan
· Prepare Requests for Bids, as applicable for log sales, consistent with the Log Purchase & Sale Plan
· Negotiate favorable terms with buyers and sellers of 3rd Party logs
· Monitor actual log flows (shipments) from company and purchase suppliers to ensure compliance with quality requirements and agreed shipping schedules
· Work with suppliers, customers and the Company’s Log Yard supervisors to correct log flow or quality problems
· Develop new log sources and consumers to ensure a balance of supply and demand
· Assist with establishment and maintenance a log quality program with all 3rd party log suppliers that will maximize sawmill throughput, overrun, and grade yield
· Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
· Bachelor of Science degree, Forestry preferred; or four years of experience; or equivalent education and experience
· Must have ability to use GPS, directional compass, and topographical maps
· Must carry a valid driver license and have a clean DMV record. Must be eligible to operate company vehicles including automobiles, trucks in accordance with company policy guidelines
· Frequently required to walk, sit, and talk or hear
· Frequently required to hike in steep, densely forested terrain
· Occasionally required to stand; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
· Frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
· Position travels throughout upstate New York 90% of the time
· Regularly exposure to outside adverse weather and field conditions.
