Primary Objective of Position:

The Lumber Grader is responsible for inspecting and grading lumber in accordance with NHLA sales codes either manually or with a lumber grading machine.

Responsibilities:

• This description represents the most significant job duties but does not exclude other work duties that may be assigned as needed.
• - Receives direction from the supervisor and notifies the supervisor when more work is needed.
• - Maintains the work area, machinery, and tools in a neat, clean, and orderly fashion.
• - Follows all safety procedures, rules, and guidelines; and notifies the supervisor of any existing or potential safety issues.
• - Follows all standard operating procedures and notifies the supervisor of potential procedural improvements.
• - Assists in other work areas when the workload permits or requires.
• - Cooperates with and supports co-workers and gets involved as a team player.
• - Meets or exceeds the production standards for the position.
• - Accurately, thoroughly, and legibly completes all documentation related to this position; i.e., production reports, accurate time keeping, etc.
• - Observes closely the operation of tools and machinery and notifies the supervisor immediately of malfunctions or maintenance that may be needed.
• - Monitors product constantly to ensure that quality standards are being met, and rejects product that does not meet quality standards.
• - Participates in the decision as to which loads of lumber shall be inspected.
• - Grades lumber manually by inspecting each board; restocking and documenting quality and quantity.
• - Operates the infeed controls of the green system.
• - Inspects each board on the green system and enters results in the computer.
• - Completes grading reports thoroughly and accurately and submits reports to the supervisor.
• - Performs light maintenance on the infeed system of the green system.
• - Assists the Maintenance Department on major repairs on the green system.
• - Performs related work as required.

Qualifications:

• High school education or equivalent.
• Minimum 9 months lumber grading experience; manufacturing environment preferred.
• Must have knowledge of hardwood lumber grades
• Math skills, including reading tape measure, digital calipers and converting fractions to decimals.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Works safely and keeps work area clear of potential hazards.



Work Hours are Tuesday-Friday, 5:30am-4:00pm.
