Logistics Director manages all aspects of an organization's logistics management function to control, deliver, and distribute products and materials to the destination. Implements an overall strategy, metrics, and processes to deploy an optimized logistic network and operations. Being a Logistics Director oversees critical and related inventory, distribution, and transportation operations that support the achievement of organizational goals and KPI's for product delivery and customer satisfaction. Selects vendors and negotiates rates and service levels and monitors performance. Additionally, Logistics Director ensures compliance with all regulations governing transportation of goods. Utilizes analytics to monitor and measure performance, identify problems in operations, and achieve high performance at optimal cost. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Logistics Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Logistics Director typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.   • Overview:

    The Director of Operations is responsible for the overall performance of multiple warehouse locations with key customers. The selection, professional development, motivation and creation of a team environment are key responsibilities as is the operation and development of existing and new business. The Director of Operations ensures that the established warehouse performance objectives are met efficiently in an effort to reduce waste and is accountable for achieving prescribed Company objectives in regard to cost, quality, productivity, customer service and profit for multiple locations, multiple accounts and multiple customers. Within the scope of this position's responsibilities, the incumbent must apply the APL Logistics Continuous Improvement (ACI) Model for operational efficiency to improve business processes, increase proficiency and increase efficiency through waste elimination while at the same time, meeting Corporate values and objectives and Customer Service objectives.

    Responsibilities for Internal Candidates

    Responsibilities:

    This position is responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

    Labor Management

    • Directs the operations of the warehouse management team to achieve prescribed objectives.
    • Develops and maintains a productive work team by creating programs for hiring, training and professional development.
    • Matches the skills and background of personnel to the work required.
    • Applies sound communication and motivational techniques.
    • Creates programs to coach, counsel and discipline subordinates.
    • Implements performance evaluation system that will provide a forum to two-way communication in reviewing past performance, setting future goals, and clearly defining expectations.
    • Ongoing feedback is a key ingredient in effective performance management.
    • Management Information Systems.
    • Ensures the creation of the necessary transportation information systems to meet Company objectives and facilitate the efficient operations of transportation.
    • Remains knowledgeable regarding changes in hardware and software technology.
    • Assists in the establishment of customer service standards for all accounts and communicates and emphasizes the importance of these standards to all personnel.

    Customer Service

    • Assures that customer accounts receive the required level of transportation and administrative support.
    • Maintains appropriate contact with all accounts and responds to requests when made.
    • Marketing and Sales.
    • Participates in Company marketing and sales efforts, including planning new account strategies, prospecting for new accounts, making sales calls, developing and quoting rates, negotiating contracts and closing sales.
    • Develops and recommends an annual operating budget.

    Budgeting

    • Develops and manages a system of controls to ensure that service levels and performance goals for the operation are met within prescribed cost, revenue and profit parameters.
    • Ensures that all accounts achieve predetermined profit standards.

    Equipment & Facilities

    • Procures equipment and facilities required to assure efficient operation and meet Company profit goals.
    • Develops suitable programs for maintaining Company standards of safety, sanitation, maintenance, security, housekeeping, and work habits in the operation of equipment and facilities in a manner that assures their most safe and efficient operation.
    • Keeps informed of relevant new technology and makes recommendations as necessary.
    • Participates in local trade, professional and civic associations as a representative of the Company.

    • Developing and managing a budget for multiple locations within company guidelines
    • Determining various business plans that will produce results that exceed budget goals

    • Reduces the operating cost of the business while maintaining quality standards
    • Seizes opportunities for reinventing the business and innovation
    • Actively builds up information relating to competitors and looks for opportunities to differentiate APL Logistics

    Qualifications for Internal Candidates

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s Degree preferred in Logistics, Transportation, Distribution, Business or equivalent combination of education and experience
    • Minimum of 7 years 3PL warehousing experience required, including 5 years of management experience
    • Strong working knowledge of PC software use including: Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
    • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills required
    • Must be able to develop and manage budgets
    • Must be able to analyze and comprehend data

    The typical starting salary range for this position is: $122,570 - $175,000.
