Loss Control Manager manages and develops loss control programs and administers risk management programs related to operating risk, insurance, and any class of financial risk. Researches and reports on cost effective plans to minimize loss. Being a Loss Control Manager contributes to business plans and objectives. Ensures compliance with all regulations and keeps abreast of any changes to laws and regulations which pertain to loss control. Additionally, Loss Control Manager requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Loss Control Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Loss Control Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     3.0    Position Summary

    Performs unsupervised gauging and sampling of shore tanks and sampling of barges and ships. Performs barge inspections under the supervision of an experienced Inspector.  Certifies that field assignments conform to company policies and procedures as well as job specific instructions supplied by the Operations Department.  As company field representative, acts in a professional and dignified manner so as to maintain the company’s respected and trusted reputation.

    4.0    Minimum Requirements

    No minimum experience necessary.  Requires a High School Diploma (or equivalent) with good math skills.  Must complete training and pass corresponding theoretical tests and field evaluations.  

        Must maintain a valid Transportation Worker’s Identification Card (TWIC). Possess and maintain a vehicle in good working order, a valid driver’s license, vehicle insurance and registration.

        Must be dependable, able to work independently and be able to effectively communicate and maintain professional relationships with numerous clients (i.e. terminal and vessel/barge personnel).  

        Must pass company defined physical requirements.  Must meet and maintain site-specific requirements mandated by customers and/or terminals in order to have access to all facilities. 

    5.0    Responsibilities

    As instructed by the Operations Department and under the strict guidelines described in the Inspection and ASTM/API manuals:

        Acts as a Company representative in the field.  Must be able to perform duties and responsibilities as per company policies and procedures.  Maintains regular contact with Operations Department in order to receive work orders and schedules.

        Effectively communicates all aspects of assigned job duties.  Maintains regular contact with Operations Department, terminals and vessel to avoid delays or conflicts.

        Obtains, labels and transports samples to the laboratory in a timely manner as required by each specific job assignment.

        Maintains assigned inspection equipment in good working order and ensures equipment is properly calibrated and stored. 

        Measures (gauge and temperature) material in shore tanks, performs all required field calculations, completes all required field documentation and submits reports to the Operations Department in a timely manner.  

    6.0    Fitness for Duty – Physical Demands

    Workday may consist of 8-12 hours; however, this can vary day to day or shift to shift. Much of the work is performed outdoors, wearing full Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and could include possible exposure to high and low temperatures for prolonged duration of time.  Work may be performed during day or nighttime hours and may involve working alone.
