Performs routine inspections and maintenance on scanner and archives imaging data. Additionally, MRI Technologist typically requires an associate degree in a related area. Summary of Position:
Perform a variety of tasks involved in the performance of MRI scans.
Primary Job Responsibilities:
Performs quality assurance checks on equipment and procedure areas.
Ensures proper safety standards are met:
· Technologist ensures that all ferromagnetic materials are located outside of scan room.
· Knowledge of ACR guidelines regarding Zones of Safety in an MRI suite is demonstrated.
· Knowledge of correct emergency shutdown procedures is demonstrated.
· Knowledge of proper fire and safety evacuations is demonstrated.
· Verification is provided that all ancillary equipment is operational (monitoring devices, injectors, etc.)
· Technologist ensures that procedure room is clean within Infection Control standards.
· Room is inspected for potential environment of care hazards (call bells, O2 tank/outlets, lighting) and discrepancies are reported to supervisor in a timely manner.
· Patient transfer/transport equipment is checked to ensure compliance with safe operational standards.
Operates required equipment necessary to produce scans using established guidelines and MRI
Protocols.
Properly identifies and explains procedure to patient.
Starts IV access according to standard procedure and injects media under the direction of a physician.
Prepares and positions patient for procedure by using established MRI protocols to achieve the highest quality image.
Assists in maintaining supply inventory.
Participates in on-going service and process improvement efforts.
Minimum Qualifications:
Completion of AMA approved school of radiological technology. NYS, RT ARRT license required. MRI or eligible as per ARRT requirements for advanced level certification. BLS certification. Advanced level certifications must be obtained within first year of employment. Minimum of two years practical experience as MRI Technologist preferred. Functional knowledge required in MRI scanner, pressure injector, teleradiology, and PACS system.
