Set up and operate CNC machines, such as CNC mills and CNC lathes, to machine precision parts according to blueprints and specifications.
Summary of essential job functions
1. Read and interpret blueprints, engineering specifications and shop orders to determine machine setup, productions methods and sequence of operation.
2. Enter or load complex programs into machine control.
3. Edit programs if needed after consulting supervisor.
4. Adjust controls to set and regulate machining factors such as surface speed and chip load.
5. Adjust machine and cutter offsets to ensure that parts conform.
6. Inspect products to verify conformance to customer’s and in-house manufacturing standards.
7. Remove burrs, sharp edges.
8. Perform minor machine maintenance such as oiling machines.
9. Assist in training of machine operators and trainees.
