    Job Description


    SUMMARY
    : Supervises and leads machine shop personnel. Works approximately 50% performing individual trade work on parts orders. Communicates company/department goals, safety practices, and deadlines to team. Motivates and trains team members and assesses performance. Provides help to management and keeps management updated on team performance. Communicates concerns and policies among management and team members. Daily responsibilities include managing cell/individual work load and shift schedules, leading daily meetings, leading improvement projects, tracking/reporting cost and improvements.

    • Leads cell teams by delegating tasks, managing workload within the cell and individually, motivates and encourages team.
    • Operates machinery to fulfil production orders, based on work load.
    • First point of contact for operators regarding processes, questions and issues.
    • Manages the daily cell production program to optimize set-ups and supports work order assignments scheduled by production department to machines and operators, appropriately assigns personnel to flex according to work load.
    • Ensures on time delivery for the production orders with expected quality, at or below expected cost.
    • Effectively runs weekly stand-up meetings to present information and get feedback/questions.
    • Positively communicates strategies and company information.
    • Develops strategies to promote team member adherence to company regulations and performance goals.
    • Addresses performance issues within the team, assist management with hiring processes and training.
    • Monitors goals and specific KPIs for the cells.
    • Analyzes, defines and implements counter measures for KPI deviations.
    • Provides quality internal customer service, including interacting with internal customers, answering enquiries and effectively handling complaints.
    • Manages raw materials, tools, gauges and 6S program for the work area.
    • Actively engages in determining and implementing MFG strategy.
    • Actively drives continuous improvement process and implementations.
    • Supports leads and performs lead duties when lead is not present.
    • Creates and maintains a high quality, teamwork, environment so team members are motivated to perform at their highest level.
    • Ensures a clean working environment throughout the department at all times.
    • Expedites operations that delay schedules and alters schedules to meet unforeseen conditions.
    • Recommend tooling fixtures required to increase productivity. Oversee implementation of said tooling and fixtures. Design special tooling and fixtures as required for effective production.
    • When necessary, assist production control in developing work orders.
    • Address disciplinary and/or performance problems according to company policy.
    • Ensures employees have appropriate training and other resources to perform their jobs to comply with company, government, and customer policies, procedures, and regulations.
    • Addresses safety issues for the department as they occur and assures compliance with company and OSHA safety rules and standards.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Supervisory Responsibilities:

    • Supervises machine shop personnel. Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
    • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints; resolving problems and recommending termination as necessary.

    Qualifications
    • Must possess 2 years of vocational training or a technical diploma in CNC machining processes and programming plus at least 5 years of work experience as a machinist OR have a minimum of 7 years of overall experience working with CNC machining processes and programming in a Machine Shop environment including the ability to read and interpret blueprints
    • Must have a minimum of 2 years functioning in a Supervisory or Leadership capacity in a manufacturing environment

    • Expert in manufacturing process and set up optimization.
    • Hands-on operator, works without supervision.

    • MS Office skills, specifically Word and Excel skills

    The expected compensation range for this position is between $80,000 - $90,000/year based on a full-time schedule.
