The Machine Shop Shift Leader is responsible for helping manage the overall running and day to day operation of the machine shop including oversight of personnel, as assigned by manager, programming jobs, ensuring quality, determination of required tooling, ordering of supplies and general organization of the shop.

Responsibilities include the following major duties:

• Assisting in management responsibility for day-to-day operations of the machine shop

• Recommendations for Hiring and management of machine shop personnel.

• Executing organization of workflow through the machine shop, as directed by manager.

• Independently making parts and ensuring quality

• Helping organization of programs, drawings, and other related documents for each job

• Design and maintenance/organization of tooling as needed.

• Perform CNC programming.

• Work with engineering on design for manufacturing.

Requirements

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and 5 years CNC mill and lathe programming required. Trade School, College Certificates and/or Degrees in Manufacturing Technology and CNC Programming are preferred.

• Expert CNC programmer and operating

• In-depth knowledge of 3-axis milling and high precision machining

• Familiarity with Mastercam

• Must be able to perform quality checks per drawing per ASTM standards.

• Must have strong communication skills to work with machine operators.

• Must have strong organizational skills that include:

• Excellent organization of shop facilities

• Organization flow of multiple work orders through the shop

• Help design and organization of tooling in a professional manner

• Must be able to read drawings and give feedback to engineering on design manufacturability.

Compensation and Benefits

• The base pay for this position ranges from $26.50 to $36.00 per hour depending on the geographic market.
