    POSITION SUMMARY

    Supervises and directs the activities of our (2) shift machine shop operation, comprised of (3) machining teams using approximately 20 machine tools and ancillary equipment. Oversees the job performance of all team members and ensures that the department operates in an efficient manner while producing the desired quality and quantity of work. In addition to managing the day-to-day tactical operations, the Machine Shop Manager is a key driver of continuous improvement initiatives to meet annual plan targets in safety, quality, delivery, costs and morale.

    • Coaches and mentors team leaders and team members
    • Plans and coordinates work center schedules and manpower requirements.
    • Leads and conducts formal problem-solving activities.
    • Utilizes visual / shop floor management (SFM) communications for daily operations
    • Identifies continuous improvement opportunities to maximize efficiency and productivity of production workers, improve product quality, and reduce costs.
    • Ensures in-process controls are routinely followed to verify product quality standards are met.
    • Facilitates team member cross training plans and aligns them with production capability needs.
    • Reviews relative production reports (productivity, quality, budget, etc..) and initiates corrective actions when appropriate
    • Prepares team member reviews, performance appraisals and disciplinary actions
    • Uses TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) methods to assure that machining equipment and facilities are clean and properly maintained for efficient production.
    • Performs 5S and Standard Work audits in the machine shop areas, highlights performance gaps and takes corrective actions as appropriate
    • Promotes safety awareness and provides safe work environment

    SKILLS & ABILITIES

    Education:

    High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED): Required
    Associates Degree (two-year college or technical school): Preferred
    Field of Study: Applied Science, Applied Technology, Journeyman, Machinist Technology: Preferred

    Experience:

    Three (3) years minimum of Supervisory experience in a CNC production machine shop environment: Required
    Five (5) years of experience working in a production CNC machine shop environment: Required

    Broad knowledge of machining processes and specific knowledge of CNC machining operations, including Horizontal Machining Centers: Required
    Understanding of fundamental CNC programming: Required
    Basics of Fanuc Controls: Preferred
    Solid working knowledge of measurement systems (gaging equipment, CMM) and Statistical Process Control methods: Required

    Computer Skills:

    Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, SharePoint): Required
    Systems, Applications, and Products (SAP) Software: Preferred

    Certifications & Licenses:

    Completion of Apprenticeship in Machining: Preferred
    Completion of formal Management Training program: Preferred
    Valid driver’s license must be maintained throughout employment that meets Busch insurance standard

    Other Requirements:

    Domestic and International travel up to 10% to include some overnights
