Machinist assembles, repairs, and fabricates parts or components for tools or machines by operating mechanical equipment. Reads and interprets blueprints and design sketches to determine the precise specifications, dimensions, and tolerance levels of the finished product. Being a Machinist selects and operates the appropriate tools to cut, shape, or finish metal, plastic, or composite material. Sets up, services, and maintains equipment to ensure efficient and safe operation. Additionally, Machinist utilizes precision measuring instruments to check the accuracy and quality of machined parts. Assembles parts into sub-units or complete units as necessary. Typically requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Machinist works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. JOB PURPOSE:
At H3X, we are building the most advanced electric propulsion systems in the world to enable sustainable electric aircraft. At 12 kW/kg continuous, the HPDM family of integrated motor drives is a step change in electric propulsion technology and removes one of the main barriers blocking widespread proliferation of electric aircraft. We have several power classes of motors ranging from 30kW to 3MW and are selling to markets of aviation, aerospace and defense, marine, and specialized ground vehicles.
We are looking to hire an R&D Machinist who will be responsible for fabrication of parts, machine setups, fixturing, and upkeep of the H3X machine shop. The ideal candidate must have 5-7 years of experience in a shop environment, be experienced with a range of machining practices and pay great attention to detail. This is a dynamic role that will apply machining practices in a variety of ways and must be flexible to adjust to critical-path deliverables and quick-turn machining operations.
