Machinist assembles, repairs, and fabricates parts or components for tools or machines by operating mechanical equipment. Reads and interprets blueprints and design sketches to determine the precise specifications, dimensions, and tolerance levels of the finished product. Being a Machinist selects and operates the appropriate tools to cut, shape, or finish metal, plastic, or composite material. Sets up, services, and maintains equipment to ensure efficient and safe operation. Additionally, Machinist utilizes precision measuring instruments to check the accuracy and quality of machined parts. Assembles parts into sub-units or complete units as necessary. Typically requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Machinist works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. What We're Offering
The Machinist will produce machined parts by setting up and operating equipment within the machine shop. The Machinist often produces small batches or one-of-a-kind items with minor direction for completing those items to the drawing specifications. The Machinist uses their knowledge of the working properties of metals and their skill with machine tools to carry out the operations needed to make machined products that meet specifications.
Education and/or Experience: High School Diploma or GED
Language Skills: Ability to read, write, and understand English
Mathematical Skills: Geometry, Trigonometry
Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to work with minimal supervision and identify conditions that warrant notification of manager.
Other Qualifications: Ability to use calibrated measuring tools to ensure part dimensions
