Being a Machinist selects and operates the appropriate tools to cut, shape, or finish metal, plastic, or composite material. Sets up, services, and maintains equipment to ensure efficient and safe operation. Additionally, Machinist utilizes precision measuring instruments to check the accuracy and quality of machined parts. Assembles parts into sub-units or complete units as necessary. Typically requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Machinist works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Manual Machinist – Journeyman Manual Machinist Overall Objective:

Responsibilities and Job Activities:
1) Frequent interaction with shop management and shop leads.
2) Adhere to company safety standards and policies, practice safe behavior always.
3) Adhere to company quality standards and policies.
4) Handling of objects and materials using hands and arms, pallet jacks, hoists, and overhead cranes.
5) Efficiently set-up and operate various manual machine tools.
6) Make decisions and solve problems through analysis and evaluation of information and results.
7) Responsible for keeping equipment and work area clean and orderly, perform basic preventative maintenance functions on equipment.
Key Skills and Competencies:
1) 3-5 years minimum experience as a manual machinist in a job shop environment.
2) Ability to correctly interpret blueprints, drawing requirements, specifications, and work instructions.
3) Ability to calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of shop math, GD&T, and industry standards.
4) Ability to machine parts to specification using machine tools such as knee mills, lathes, horizontal boring mills, and grinders.
5) Ability to measure, examine, and test completed components to ensure conformance to specifications, using common precision instruments.
6) Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs.
7) Knowledge of various cutting tools and correct applications.
8) Must be able to follow written and oral instructions.
9) Must be able to communicate in English (both written and oral) as it relates to the job.
10) Must be adaptable to changing work environment, competingdemand, and be able to deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events
11) Must be willing and able to work flexible shifts and changing work schedules.
12) Punctuality and attendance are required for this position.
