SUMMARY

This position is responsible for machining, modifying, and repairing metallic or composite production and prototype parts and assemblies using manual or CNC mills, and lathes.

Position Responsibilities:

The Machinist handles a wide variety of situations, including:

• Set up, operate, and adjust a variety of manual or CNC mills and lathes:
  • Haas VF-9 (CNC vertical mill)
  • Remedy Bed Mill (CNC vertical mill)
  • Trak CNC lathe (with manual capabilities)
• Read and interpret following engineering sketches, 2D & 3D drawings, process specifications, written and oral instructions
• Work with engineering and project owners to ensure accuracy of required deliverable
• Set up machines and dimensionally check cutting tools and/or parts for conformance to blueprints and specifications using measuring instruments, gauges and tools
• Check items for compliance using hand held precision measuring equipment, such as calipers, micrometers, height gages and scales
• Follow all safety procedures
  
  

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Strong mechanical aptitude
• Ability to learn and use Mastercam, Autocad and Solidworks
• Demonstrate ability to manage multiple and competing priorities, and easily adapt to changing situations and priorities
• Ability to collaborate productively with team members and take direction from multiple sources
• Ability to interpret engineering sketches and CAD models
• Ability to apply mathematics including practical math, algebra, and geometry
• Ability to solve a wide range of difficult technical problems in imaginative and practical ways and evaluate alternative solutions that may require coordination across multiple teams

• Ability to meet deadlines and produce quality results is a must

Physical Demands:

May be required to stand for extended periods of time.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, for machine and computer related activities and other tasks.

Work Environment:

Work performed in a shop environment.
