Machinist assembles, repairs, and fabricates parts or components for tools or machines by operating mechanical equipment. Reads and interprets blueprints and design sketches to determine the precise specifications, dimensions, and tolerance levels of the finished product. Being a Machinist selects and operates the appropriate tools to cut, shape, or finish metal, plastic, or composite material. Sets up, services, and maintains equipment to ensure efficient and safe operation. Additionally, Machinist utilizes precision measuring instruments to check the accuracy and quality of machined parts. Assembles parts into sub-units or complete units as necessary. Typically requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Machinist works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Baylor Sciences and Facilities is looking for a responsible, hands-on, and detail-oriented Research and Development Machinist. The R&D Machinist will provide technical guidance, expertise, and leadership to faculty and students regarding design and how to build complex, novel, or state of the art prototypes, components, and parts; often requiring the development of new and improved techniques, procedures, and tooling.
A High School diploma, two years of relevant work experience, and an active Christian faith are required.
An associate degree from either a community college or trade school, five years of relevant work experience, and an active Christian faith are preferred.
A combination of education and work experience will be considered in lieu of the required degree and/or years of experience.
Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
