Mail Clerk receives, sorts and distributes incoming mail. Collects and processes outgoing mail. Being a Mail Clerk operates postage machine and other mailroom equipment as needed. Typically requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Additionally, Mail Clerk typically reports to a Mailroom Supervisor. The Mail Clerk possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. Works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Duties and Responsibilities
· May perform other duties incidental to lifting, handling, sorting and delivering mail.
· Operates light trucks up to 2 ½ ton capacity. All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
· High school diploma or equivalent
Working Conditions
Occasional risk of injury due to hazards.
Physical Requirements
· Lift up to 70 pound load up from the ground frequently, must be able to lift/handle mail bags
· Walk six hours per day
· Bend and stoop six hours per day
· Work overhead with minimum 20 pound load
· Push and pull frequently throughout the day
· Walk up/down stairs frequently
· Stand seven hours per day
· Climb ladders and scaffolding
· Wear PPE gear six hours continuously (steel toe shoes, safety glasses, hard hat, gloves)
· Tolerate extreme cold/heat for three hours continuously
